About Us

The Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) Division at the Department of Public Works is responsible for the administration of drivers and vehicles in the province. We are responsible for the policies, legislation, and regulations that guide Road Safety in our province. We operate in a proactive regulatory environment. We maintain records regarding driver licensing, medical fitness, driver competency, and compliance, all working together to ensure a safe road network.

About Our Opportunity

As a Driver Examiner, you are part of the team directly impacting road safety in our Province through driver evaluation and testing. You will be trained in all aspects of driver evaluation and intervention as outlined in the Motor Vehicle Act and all regulations associated with driver licencing, including commercial class driver licences.

Primary Accountabilities

As a Driver Examiner, you play a critical role in supporting road safety in your province and the results of your work are far reaching; impacting all road users including drivers, passengers, and vulnerable road users and their ability to return home safely. You will interact with citizens in‑person during all aspects of driver evaluations.

In your role, you maintain a high level of standards and consistency when determining the driver’s ability and competency in the safe operation of a motor vehicle. You examine, re‑examine, license and evaluate new and experienced drivers in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations. You assess driver behavior and determine how an individual moves forward. You conduct interviews on topics related to driver records, behaviours and history and make subsequent recommendations to the Deputy Registrar of Motor Vehicles. This position requires a high degree of neutrality, confidentiality, and diplomacy.

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Related equivalencies may include, but are not limited to:

  • A Bachelor degree and one (1) year of related experience

Working Conditions

This job is stressful! The successful candidate must have a proven track record of managing highly stressful situations in an extremely fast paced environment. You will be required to take verbal and physical control of moving vehicles in order to avoid collisions. You may also be exposed to fumes, scents, allergens, and adverse weather conditions.

Additional Information

You must have a clean driving record and will be required to submit a driver abstract during the interview process. This position may require travel throughout the Province, therefore daily access to a reliable motor vehicle is required.

This is a Perm and Term employment opportunity (Bridgewater (Perm), Sydney (Perm), Kentville (Term). The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: TE 21

Salary Range: $2,105.04 - $2,466.26 Bi‑Weekly
