About the role
Reporting to the Human Resource Manager, the Human Resource Generalist will be responsible for recruiting, selecting employees, and managing employee programs and policies related to employee engagement, productivity, and retention. The Human Resource Generalist will help build a positive culture in the organization by coaching and mentoring team managers on managing employee conflict, accommodation, performance management, and conducting progressive discipline or termination conversations. They will also answer questions and provide guidance regarding company policies, procedures, benefits, and programs that employees may have.

Job Duties
Coaching and Mentoring
- Coach and mentor team managers and Department Managers on managing employee conflict, accommodation, performance management, conducting progressive discipline or termination conversations
- Communicate to internal stakeholders Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, and regulations.
- Investigate and provide resolutions to employee relation issues (e.g. employee complaints and harassment allegations)
Recruitment
- Prepare, update and maintain recruitment advertising, both internally and externally, according to Meridian Manufacturing Inc. standards.
- Identify recruitment sources locally, nationally and internationally.
- Perform interviews, screens, and recruit for entry level, professional and technical job openings.
- Ensure the compatibility of applicants to job positions.
- Build and sustain beneficial relationships with employment agencies and educational institutions.
- Plan, organize and attend recruitment fairs as requested.
Employee Relations
- Educate both current and prospective employees on company policies regarding job duties, working conditions, safety, wages, career advancement opportunities, employee benefits, and recreation programs.
- Maintain accurate records and compile statistical reports relating to personnel data, e.g., hires, transfers, absenteeism rates, and performance reviews.
- Conduct orientation and training within the organization.
- Administer performance management programs, retirement procedures, and compensation.
- Conduct exit interviews and provide management with analysis and recommendations as necessary.
- Provide general information and assistance internally and externally over the phone, electronically, and in person.
Employee Programs
- Develop and implement employee-related programs and policies to improve the engagement, productivity, and retention of employees.
- Recommend, develop, and maintain human resource databases, computer software systems, and manual filing systems.
- Develop and provide recommendations for policies and processes, and provide research as requested.
- Plan and organize employee programs, staff events, and recreational activities.
- Regularly update job descriptions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; and two or more years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the human resource field.
- One to three years’ experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of employment standards.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Must be a highly motivated, team-oriented individual with attention to detail.
- Strong English communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Proficiency with administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize.
- Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives are prerequisites.
- Working towards the CPHR designation is an asset
