About the role
About the Project:
Trillium Rail Partners (TRP) is a consortium of Amico Major Projects, Alberici Constructors, and Acciona Infrastructure Canada, working closely with Metrolinx to deliver the Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, a transformative 9.2 km expansion of Toronto’s light rail network.
Position Overview:
TRP has a current vacancy for a MEP Estimator who will support the pre-construction and delivery phases of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension LRT. This role is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates and budgets for all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, tunnel ventilation, traction power, lighting, communications, and station services. The estimator will collaborate closely with engineering, design, procurement, and construction teams to ensure cost certainty and effective risk management across the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for all MEP systems:
- Mechanical: HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, tunnel ventilation, pumping stations, and station mechanical services.
- Electrical: traction power, switchgear, substations, lighting, cable trays, and low-voltage systems.
- Plumbing/Fire Protection: water supply, drainage, pumps, sprinklers, and life safety systems.
- Perform quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications, and BIM models.
- Develop and maintain unit rates for piping, ductwork, electrical cabling, panels, and equipment.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers, and construction managers to validate constructability, sequencing, and methodology impacts on cost.
- Support value engineering exercises by identifying cost-saving alternatives and design optimizations.
- Analyze subcontractor/vendor pricing and provide bid evaluations.
- Support tender preparation and submission for design-build or P3 infrastructure contracts.
- Participate in risk and contingency analysis, particularly for MEP scope interfaces and system integration challenges.
- Track and update market trends in labor, materials, and MEP equipment.
- Provide input for project budgets, cost planning, change orders, and claims.
Qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline is preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in estimating MEP systems, preferrably for major infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of MEP system design, codes, and standards, particularly for transportation and transit environments.
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., CostX, HCSS HeavyBid, Sage Estimating, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with BIM/Revit/Civil 3D for MEP take-offs is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines in a collaborative environment.
- Strong communication and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
Competencies:
- Expertise in MEP estimating across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing/fire protection systems.
- Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and sequencing for complex projects.
- Vendor/subcontractor engagement and evaluation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

The consortium signed a progressive design-build Development and Master Construction Agreement (DMCA) in August 2025, to enable the commencement of early construction works and to work closely with Metrolinx to collaboratively progress the design, optimize risk allocation, and establish pricing for key project elements ahead of the main construction works.
The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension SRS scope includes:
- Design and construction of seven new stations, including a mix of underground, elevated, and at-grade facilities
- Installation of track and railway systems
- Integration of communications, ventilation, and other support systems for the new line
- Integration works at Mount Dennis Station to connect the extension with Line 5 Eglinton
- Utility relocations and road modifications along Eglinton Avenue West
Once complete, the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will extend Line 5 westward from Mount Dennis Station to Renforth Drive, improving connectivity and supporting sustainable transit solutions for the Greater Toronto Area.
Together, we are committed to delivering world-class infrastructure that benefits communities and shapes the future of urban mobility.
