THE OPPORTUNITY: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT B - NETWORKING & PROGRAMMING SPECIAL EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY BC (SET-BC) Special Education Technology BC is a Provincial Outreach Program funded by the Ministry of Education and Child Care (ECC) and hosted by the Vancouver School Board. SET-BC was established in 1989 by the Special Education Branch of the BC Ministry of Education to provide assistive technology services for students living with physical disabilities. In this position, you will:
- Perform information technology functions to support the work at SET-BC
- Provide technical support to end users for hardware, software and network issues
- Install, configure and maintain hardware and software
- Implement and monitor security protocols to protect systems from unauthorized access
- Stay up to date with the latest cybersecurity threats and solutions
- Configure, maintain and monitor network infrastructure (e.g.: routers, switches, firewalls)
- Troubleshoot network issues and optimize performance
- Mange cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Automate deployment, monitoring and scaling of applications using DevOps tools
- Design, develop and test software applications
- Design, implement and manage database (SQL, NoSQL)
- Maintain data integrity, security and back ups
- Maintain and monitor IT systems, servers and databases
- Perform routine system updates, backups and disaster recovery tests
- Write clean, scalable and maintainable code using programming languages such as Python, Java JavaScript, C++ or others
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Completion of grade 12 plus 2 years' full time equivalent post-secondary education in a relevant technology discipline
- More than 2 years of experience in networking/programming
- Experience working in a K-12 education organization preferred
- Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in supporting audio-visual systems, screen-sharing tools, and video conferencing platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Webex
- Strong technical expertise is required with Apple and Microsoft devices, servers, networks, security, and virtual environments, as well as core infrastructure technologies including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and wireless security
- Proficiency with O365, Azure AD, Intune, Jamf, VMware, and related tools, combined with excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills, is essential
- Additional assets include experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation and documentation, and familiarity with Salesforce, particularly low-code tools for workflows, data integrity, and security
- Applicants must also successfully complete a one-hour technical assessment with a minimum score of 70%.
