About the role
Freeform Plastics is seeking a hands-on R&D Design Engineering Intern to support the design and development of high-quality plastic components for various industries including agriculture. This 12 or 16 month internship, starting in January or May 2026, offers practical experience in CAD modeling, prototype testing, and engineering analysis within a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in designing and improving agricultural equipment and components.
- Create and revise CAD models and engineering drawings.
- Perform basic engineering calculations and support FEA analysis.
- Participate in concept development and early-stage design planning.
- Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing in shop and field settings.
- Document test results and assist in design refinement.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors.
- Help gather and apply feedback from customers and dealers.
- Contribute to technical documentation and project tracking.
Academic/Education Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an engineering program (mechanical or agricultural preferred) and eligible for your college’s internship program.
Required Skills/Experience
- Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
- Basic understanding of engineering analysis and prototype testing.
- Familiarity with instrumentation, metal fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with farming or light industrial machinery is an asset.
- Interest and knowledge in agricultural equipment and hands-on design work.
- Clear communication, attention to detail, and ability to work in a team.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365.
