About the role

Purpose: The Manager, Dean's Office and Academic Operations is responsible for the day to day administration and operational management of the Dean's Office and faculty governance functions within the Law School. Reporting to the Dean, the role ensures the effective delivery of administrative services that support faculty governance and academic administration in compliance with university policies, collective agreements, and established procedures. The role provides direct operational supervision to administrative staff in the Dean's Office, including Faculty Assistants and the administrative support for faculty members. This includes coordinating workloads, establishing service standards, and ensuring appropriate coverage and continuity of operations across academic cycles. The Manager supports faculty governance processes by administering Faculty Council and its committees, maintaining accurate records, and providing operational guidance on academic policies and procedures. The Manager oversees administrative processes related to faculty appointments and academic personnel matters, manages faculty and administrative records, and administers operational budgets within the area of responsibility. Through effective coordination, staff supervision, and issue resolution, the role is responsible for the effective functioning of faculty governance and Dean's Office operations within a complex academic administrative environment.

Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline.

Experience: 4 years of related experience.
2 years of management experience.
Experience in academic administration or similar environment.

Knowledge: Knowledge of post-secondary education sector priorities and pressures, including those related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization.
Knowledge of government regulations and reporting requirements affecting post-secondary education.
Knowledge of policy-setting bodies and procedures, academic and non-academic policies, regulations, and decision-making processes.
Knowledge of governance and academic and administrative structures within a post-secondary environment.

Skills: Ability to become highly conversant in past and present Osgoode initiatives, achievements.
Effective communication skills.
Effective judgement skills and ability to apply tact in drafting sensitive correspondence and reports, planning and policy documents.
Ability to anticipate priorities based on the academic cycle and allocate resources appropriately.
Able to synthesize, analyze, and interpret information and policy documents.
Effective critical thinking, interpersonal and planning skills
Effective project management skills.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships, including strategic linkages across areas.
Ability to lead, inspire and motivate teams to deliver results.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, learning platforms (eClass), database (ARMS), and file sharing management system(s).

Additional Notes: Note: Verification of degree(s)/credential(s) is required.
Normal office environment.
On occasion, may require flexibility in hours and days of work.

-Compensation:

York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York's CPM Compensation Program.
