About the Role

Reporting to the Store Manager, the Assistant Manager, Landscape Supply Centre is responsible for supporting the overall performance of the Landscape Supply Centre. You will lead and motivate employees, drive sales and merchandising initiatives, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and help achieve store and company goals.

As a key leader within the Garden Centre, you are expected to actively contribute to your own development and the growth of your team through coaching, mentoring, and leading by example. You will represent Sheridan Nurseries with professionalism, positivity, and a strong commitment to safety, service, and teamwork.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Guest Experience & Sales

  • Foster an enthusiastic, helpful, and sales-oriented culture that delivers exceptional guest service.
  • Build strong relationships with existing guests while supporting the acquisition of new business.
  • Assist the Store Manager in planning and executing strategies to meet and exceed sales and profit targets.
  • Actively promote Sheridan services, in-store events, and seasonal initiatives.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide daily leadership, coaching, training, and mentorship to employees.
  • Lead by example, creating a positive, respectful, and motivated work environment.
  • Address guest and employee concerns professionally and confidently.
  • Support performance management by recognizing success and addressing issues proactively.

Merchandising, Inventory & Operations

  • Assist in planning and executing department floor plans and displays in line with corporate merchandising standards.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Managers, Category Managers, and Store Supervisors to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and timely follow-up on Head Office requests.
  • Support store operations by stepping in for Store Management as required, including opening and closing responsibilities.

Health & Safety

  • Promote a safe work environment through active observation, hazard reporting, and coaching on best practices.
  • Lead by example and ensure all policies and safety guidelines are followed.

Wage Range: $50,000 - $70,000

What You Bring

  • Passion for retail, sales, and guest service.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive sales through relationship building, product knowledge, and effective merchandising.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with guests and employees.
  • Ability to remain professional, adaptable, and solutions-focused during peak seasons.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Dependable, punctual, and guided by honesty, integrity, and authenticity.
  • Flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and seasonal peak periods.
  • High school diploma and legal eligibility to work in Canada.
  • This is an active, hands-on leadership role in an outdoor retail environment. The position requires extended periods of walking and standing, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and working in various weather conditions.

Assets (Nice to Have)

  • Previous experience in horticulture, landscaping, or a related industry.
  • Existing product knowledge or a strong ability and willingness to learn.
