About the role
Education: College/CEGEP. Work site environment: Corrections. Personal and social adjustment and health (substance abuse, gambling, behaviour disorders). Socio-economic needs or conditions (housing, nutrition, unemployment, financial assistance). Crime prevention. Services for the homeless. Work setting: Community agency. Correctional facility. Women's drop-in centre. Social service or charity agency. Tasks: Prepare reports or case histories. Administrative and office activities. Perform administrative tasks. Implement life skills workshops. Refer offenders to community and social services programs. Liaise with the inmates' families and contacts in the community. Develop, co-ordinate and implement the delivery of specific services within the community. Resolve conflict situations. Assist offenders in pre-release and release planning. Liaise with other social services agencies and health care providers involved with clients. Maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and research. Assist clients/guests with special needs. Accompany clients to appointments and social outings. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate. First Aid Certificate. CPR Certificate. Student status: Full time enrollment. Target audience: Culturally diverse groups. Families. Females. Males. Persons with mental health disabilities. Street population. Young offenders. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Transportation/travel information: Own transportation. Public transportation is available. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Work under pressure. Weight handling: Up to 9 kg (20 lbs). Personal suitability: Efficient interpersonal skills. Excellent oral communication. Excellent written communication. Initiative. Team player. Screening questions: Are you currently a student?. Experience: 1 to less than 7 months.
