About the Role

Opportunity to contribute alongside a world class investment team covering Total Portfolio construction, liquid and illiquid asset class strategies. Under the guidance of senior staff in the team, the Investment Analyst Student will assist in a wide range of portfolio construction activities, and focus on researching and developing analyses, tools and methodologies in support of the Total Portfolio construction mandate. The studies may include all aspects of Total Portfolio investment strategy, including liquid and illiquid asset class research, customized benchmark development, and quantitative macro and market research. Statistics and analytical software will be commonly used in completing studies and reports. A high level of oral and written communication of the studies and the reports will be required. Training will be provided on OPTrust procedures, systems and work processes. Students will also participate in OPTrust’s orientation and campus program.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform quantitative analysis to support portfolio construction research and quantitative macro strategy development.

  • Analyze market and portfolio information to support investments' risk analysis and management.

  • Explore innovative ways of constructing portfolios, and provide inputs to portfolio construction and asset allocation decision-making processes.

  • Prepare and deliver clear and well-structured research reports and presentations for internal audiences.

  • Maintain and improve internal analytical tools and systems.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

  • Currently enrolled in a co-op program such as quantitative finance, economics, statistics, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of economics, modern portfolio theory, and financial markets.

  • Proven experience in analytical, quantitative, and financial modeling skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel including Visual Basic), knowledge of quantitative software such as Python, and willingness to leverage technology and systems.

  • Motivated and able to work independently under the guidance of senior staff and manage priorities to meet time-sensitive deadlines.

  • Able to perform effectively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Prior work experience in the financial sector would be considered an asset.
