The Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), the University of British Columbia (UBC) Department Of Surgery, Division of General Surgery, and the Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) & Abdominal Transplant Surgery program invite applications for a position of an abdominal transplant surgeon at VGH, Vancouver, British Columbia.

The successful candidate will become a member of the UBC & VGH Division of General Surgery, and the HPB & Liver, Pancreas and Islet Transplant program. Developing research and protocols for clinical outcomes and/or educational initiatives related to HPB surgery and/or liver, pancreas and islet transplantation will also be required.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a clinical appointment with the UBC Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery, and to participate in medical student, resident, and fellow teaching.

A successful candidate must have a formal training in abdominal transplant and HPB surgery such as a fellowship at an American Society of Transplantation Surgeons (ASTS) and Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery (AHPBA) certified fellowship or equivalent training. The candidate must to be eligible for licensure in the province of British Columbia. A graduate degree (at least a Masters in Sciences or the equivalent) and a background in outcomes research is preferred. A formal training in deceased donor liver transplantation, live donor liver transplantation, pancreas, and islet transplantation as well as open and minimally invasive HPB surgery would be an asset.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Desired
  • Anesthesia Experience - Desired
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) - Desired
  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) - Full
  • Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP) – Emergency Medicine – Eligible
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Mandatory
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) - Eligible
  • Obstetric Experience - Desired
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PAL) - Desired
  • Surgical Skills – Desired
  • Emergency Experience - Desired
