About the role

Specialist, Protection & Control

We are looking for a Protection & Control Specialist(entry to early career) to join our team in Hamilton, Ontario. Our Protection & Control department has been providing testing and engineering services throughout Ontario since 1970. We offer premier services in power system engineering, as well as in the design, implementation, and maintenance of power system protection equipment.The Protection & Control Specialistwill be instrumental in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our clients' electrical systems. This role is suited to a recent graduate or early-career professional with strong technical aptitude and communication skills, who will support programming, testing, and verification of protection and control devices in the field and assist with integration to SCADA and RTU systems.

What will you do as a Technical Manager?

  • Perform field testing, programming, and verification of Intelligent Electronic Devices, including SEL, Siemens, ABB and GE.
  • Conduct Relay testing and protection scheme testing via secondary injections using Omicron three phase relay tester.
  • Assist with SCADA and RTU system integration.
  • Create or modify single-line (EWD, CWD etc.) and three-line diagrams using AutoCAD.
  • Conduct troubleshooting of protection and control circuits and systems, with guidance as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with project teams to ensure timely delivery and adherence to customer specifications and safety standards.
  • Prepare technical test reports and maintain precise documentation.

Do you have the Spark? Here's what we're looking for

  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a 3-year engineering diploma with a focus on power systems.
  • Eligible to register with OACETT or PEO
  • 0 to 3 years of relevant experience in the protection and control field (new graduates encouraged to apply).
  • Strong theoretical understanding of power systems protection.
  • Exposure to test equipment such as Omicron for secondary injection testing preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across Ontario.
