Position Summary

As a vital member of the inter-professional healthcare team, this position is accountable for executing personalized behavioral rehabilitation plans for individuals with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) in both In-patient and Day Patient settings. Beyond patient education responsibilities, this role also fulfills designated duties pertaining to patients' daily activities and fundamental care needs in strict accordance with hospital standards, policies, procedures, and the unit's care delivery model.

Duties:

  • Inpatient ABI Program

  • Implement behavioral and rehabilitation interventions for in-patient ABI clients.

  • Teach ADLs and apply OT, PT, and SLP strategies as per patient needs.

  • Provide routine care, including escorting clients to medical appointments and social outings.

  • Support clients in learning social skills and managing behavior on-site.

  • Unit Accountabilities

  • Implement behavioural and rehabilitation interventions and plans to in-patient ABI clients.

  • Report significant clinical findings to the RN or Behavioural Therapist.

  • Implement ongoing assessments and collect data.

  • Provide client support including escorting clients to medical or other health appointment; social outings.

  • Teach clients supporting social skills as well as other education as required.

  • Complete documentation in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Service Planning and Delivery

  • Participate in team and/or hospital wide committees as requested.

  • Provide program statistics.

  • Safety Awareness

  • Participate in relevant hospital committees and provide program statistics.

  • Engage in research and quality improvement activities.

  • Implement programs using CPI techniques for safety.

  • Maintain awareness of safety standards, identify and address safety issues, and attend safety meetings and training as required.

  • Work in alignment with West Park's core values: Respecting People, Striving for Innovation, Achieving Excellence, and Demonstrating Accountability and maintaining a strong performance history and punctuality record.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in health, social, or behavioral sciences.

  • Possession of a Crisis Prevention/Intervention certificate; or willingness to complete this training within the initial 3 months of employment.

  • B.S.T. diploma and Acquired Brain Injury certificate preferred

  • Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) designation preferred

  • Previous experience working with clients exhibiting challenging behaviors.

  • Proficiency in implementing behavioral assessment and treatment programs.

  • Knowledge of behavioral techniques, crisis prevention, and intervention strategies.

  • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated aptitude for teaching.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Commitment to demonstrating a customer service philosophy.

  • Flexibility to accommodate a variable work schedule, including shift work.

  • Evidence of exemplary attendance and punctuality.

  • Previous experience in the field of Acquired Brain Injury clients preferred
