People & Culture Advisor
About the role
Overview:
The People & Culture, P&C, Advisor provides full cycle P&C support across WINS, acting as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees on matters related to recruitment, employee relations, learning and development, performance, disability management, P&C policy interpretation, and legislative compliance. The position manages complex employee relations, supports organizational change initiatives, and contributes to workforce planning and talent development. In addition, the position manages the optimization of ADP HRIS, and reporting. This role models WINS values, using trauma informed practices and inclusive approaches in all interactions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Generalist Functions
-
Deliver end-to-end P&C support to WINS managers and employees.

Provide guidance to managers on building positive, psychologically safe, and inclusive workplace culture.

Provide coaching on performance management, conflict resolution, and difficult conversations.
-
Manage complex employee relations matters including investigations, discipline, and terminations in compliance with legislation and organizational policy.

Lead recruitment activities including strategy development, position development, screening, interviewing, reference checks, and offer preparation.
-
Support disability management, return to work planning, and workplace accommodations.
-
Ensure consistent application of employment legislation and organizational policies.
-
Support roll-out of engagement surveys, staff recognition initiatives and resulting action plans.
HRIS Administration & Compliance
-
Oversee HRIS administration, ensuring data accuracy, workflow integrity, and compliance across all P&C modules; proactively identify and resolve system issues before they impact operations.

Drive the development and refinement of P&C reporting and dashboards, providing strategic insights and data analysis to support P&C decision‑making and organizational planning.

Function as the HRIS subject‑matter expert, providing advanced troubleshooting, permission management, vendor liaison support, and guidance to P&C team members and managers.

Spearhead continuous improvement by configuring enhancements, testing system updates, optimizing processes, and developing user training materials and documentation to strengthen system utilization.
Employee Engagement
-
Execution and delivery of employee engagement initiatives across WINS, including recognition programs, culture‑building activities, and communication touchpoints that strengthen connection to our mission and enhance the employee experience.

Coordinate engagement surveys and feedback mechanisms, including planning, deployment, results analysis, and follow‑up actions; partnering with leaders to implement practical, value-aligned improvements that support retention and workplace culture.

Championing a positive and inclusive work environment by supporting cross‑team collaboration, reinforcing WINS values in daily practices, and ensuring engagement activities are accessible and meaningful for both retail and administrative teams.
Learning & Development
-
Contribute to organization wide training initiatives and enhancements to the LMS system, GROW
-
Partner with managers and subject matter experts to identify skill gaps and support the development and delivery of relevant learning opportunities.
-
Monitor and report on training participation and outcomes; propose adjustments based on emerging needs and organizational priorities.
Other Responsibilities
-
Support cross functional P&C projects and change management efforts.
-
Provide support and back up for Health & Safety lead with WCB administration, incident reporting, and follow-up.

Participate in policy reviews, updates, and communication to ensure organizational policies remain current and accessible.
-
Provide backup coverage for other P&C team members during absences or peak workload periods.
-
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field or equivalent experience
-
Minimum of 5 years’ progressive HR experience with at least 3 years in an advisory capacity
-
Strong understanding of Alberta employment standards, human rights, WCB
-
Experience leading complex employee relations matters.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SharePoint
-
Experienced ADP Workforce Now Practitioner
-
Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR)

From our humble beginning, WINS has grown from one thrift store location to five across Calgary, in addition to our Donation Centre. We have also launched a bulk thrift store, More Store by WINS, and an online thrift box service, Twice New by WINS.
