Electrical Engineer - Testing & Commissioning:
Location: 100% Onsite, Scarborough, ON
Travel: Frequent travel across North America required
Availability: Full-time 40.0 hours a week + on-call evenings, weekends and holidays on a continuous basis, rotational schedule (rotation frequency to be decided)
Position Summary:
The Electrical Engineer - Testing & Commissioning plays a key role in commissioning, integrating, and maintaining advanced Energy Storage (BESS) and Electric Vehicle Fast Charging (EVFC) systems across North America. This position is suited for a technically strong and field-oriented engineer with a solid background in electrical integration, with a diversified skillset in PLC programming, software development and energy systems who thrives in hands-on environments and dynamic field conditions.
The successful candidate will serve as a technical lead during installations, commissioning, quality control testing, and field troubleshooting, ensuring system performance, safety, and reliability. This role will be directly reporting into the Director of Hardware and supporting the Operations team.
Key Responsibilities:
System Integration & Commissioning:

Lead installation and commissioning of EVFC and BESS systems, working independently post-training or with field technicians as needed.

Understand and debug PLCs and embedded control systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or equivalent).
-
Integrate sensors, control boards, and power electronics with embedded software and communication protocols.
-
Support and oversee Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and User Acceptance Tests (UAT).
-
Document integration procedures, site configurations, and test results with precision and structure.
Maintenance & Quality Control:
-
Conduct scheduled and annual and weekly maintenance activities ensuring equipment uptime and reliability.
-
Support Quality Control (QC) testing for new system deployments and retrofits, validating performance against design and safety standards.
-
Analyze performance data, identify root causes of faults, and implement corrective actions.
-
Develop preventive maintenance strategies and recommendations for continuous system improvement.
Electrical Design & Project Coordination:
-
Review and interpret electrical packages and single-line diagrams to support project planning and execution (across 200+ SLAs).
-
Collaborate with project management to ensure design intent is realized in the field.
-
Coordinate and supervise work with electrical contractors to ensure compliance with specifications, safety standards, and timelines.
-
Identify discrepancies or field changes and ensure proper documentation and redlining of as-built drawings.
On-Call & Field Support:

Provide on-call technical support for deployed systems in coordination with the Customer Support team.

Troubleshoot critical field issues remotely or on-site, ensuring timely resolution and client satisfaction.
-
Prepare detailed technical reports, site summaries, and field support documentation for internal and client use.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and external partners to support knowledge transfer and product improvement.

Contribute feedback and field insights to inform design revisions and system enhancements.
-
Participate in and occasionally lead special projects related to system integration, validation, or process improvement.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science, or a related field.
-
Minimum 5–6 years of experience in electrical engineering, hardware integration, or system commissioning.
-
Proven experience in energy systems, electrical energy systems, and industrial control systems.
-
Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar).
-
Experience with scripting or automation tools (Python, Bash, or equivalent) for testing and diagnostics.
-
Strong ability to read and interpret system schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
-
Proficient in reviewing and preparing electrical packages and single-line diagrams.
-
Familiar with communication protocols such as Modbus, CAN, TCP/IP, or OPC-UA.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis tools.

Hands-on integration and troubleshooting skills in high-voltage energy systems.

Strong project coordination and field leadership abilities.

Excellent documentation, communication, and reporting skills.

Comfortable working independently and traveling extensively.

Adaptable, solutions-focused, and motivated by technical challenges.

Ability and willingness to travel extensively across North America.

Availability for on-call support during evenings, weekends, holidays as assigned and on rotation.
