About NVision
NVision Insight Group Inc. is an Indigenous consulting company with extensive experience working in and with First Nation, Inuit and Métis communities, governments, organizations and corporations. With offices in Ottawa, Iqaluit, and on reserve in Winnipeg and a national team, we provide a range of high-quality consulting services across Canada. Our team includes First Nation, Inuit, Métis and non-Indigenous shareholders, staff, associates and subcontractors. NVision provides products and services in three practice areas: Consulting & Advisory, Learning, and Studio. www.nvisiongroup.ca
About the Role
If you see business development as relationship development, this job may be for you. We’ve built a solid reputation, we nurture trusted relationships, and we provide exceptional, professional services. We’ve evolved and grown and we’re now ready to take our company to the next level. We're hiring a Director of Business Development who will guide us and support our long-term growth. You lead by bringing in the work that will move NVision forward — work that fits who we are, that our people are proud to do, and that we have the capacity to do well. We’re looking for someone who understands Client Relationship Management (CRM), proposal processes and infrastructure, someone who has a continued focus on profitability, all while ensuring we respect Indigenous approaches and self-determination. You sit in the Management Circle alongside the Managing Director and the Senior Manager of Shared Services, and report to the Board. You lead annual business planning, own the business development budget and systems, represent the company externally, guide our proposals, and tell the company where the market is going. You are supported by our three Principals who are thought leaders and consultants leading our Practice Areas.
NVision Insight Group Inc. is committed to equity, reconciliation, and the meaningful inclusion of Indigenous peoples in our workforce. We encourage applications from qualified Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) candidates. Preference will be given to Indigenous candidates as part of a special program established under Section 14 of the Ontario Human Rights Code. We also encourage applications from other equity-deserving groups, including racialized people, persons with disabilities, women, and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. Applicants who wish to be considered for Indigenous preference are asked to complete a voluntary self-identification survey and, if selected for the role, to provide documentation confirming their Indigenous identity. Verification of Indigenous identity and consent to retain a confidential record of verification is required to receive preference in the hiring process.
Anticipated Start Date: October 15, 2026 (start date is flexible)
Compensation: $110,000 - $155,000 (plus performance bonus at the conclusion of Q2 and Q4)
Location: Hybrid/Flexible (with some travel required), preference for candidates in Ottawa, Winnipeg or Iqaluit. This position is open to remote workers who live in Canada (must have reliable internet and a quiet workspace) or may work out of our offices in Ottawa, Winnipeg, or Iqaluit. Travel will be required for meetings, project tasks, engagement and fieldwork.
Responsibilities
Relationships: Build and hold senior relationships with Indigenous communities, government partners, corporate clients and associates, alongside our Principals and Senior Consultants. Steward key clients as long-term partnerships rooted in respect and reciprocity. Represent NVision at conferences, gatherings and sector events. Lead our corporate communications strategy: marketing materials, public presence, sponsorships and trade shows. Growth strategy and planning: Build and run a firm-wide business development strategy that matches our strategic plan and our real capacity. Lead annual business planning with the Managing Director and Principals: priorities, revenue targets, investments, market development. Proposals: Lead and oversee complex proposals, RFP responses, government Standing Offer Agreements and client presentations. Turn our expertise and Indigenous-led perspectives into clear, compelling, client-centred writing. Work with Principals and Senior Consultants to align scope, pricing and delivery capacity. Strengthen our proposal processes and templates so we succeed more often on the work we choose to pursue, and support negotiations. Inside the firm: Mentor senior practitioners in business development confidence and relationship-building. Implement and steward the CRM and business development systems. Keep growth aligned with operational planning. Contribute to Management Circle decisions on investments, partnerships and emerging markets.
What Success Looks Like
If this goes the way it should, twelve months in: New clients have come to us and continue to work with us. Revenue and profitability have increased. Clients we already had have come back with new or expanded work because you nurtured the relationships and made the connection to our Practice Areas. Business development runs on a plan and a system and the Principals are better at it than they were because you worked with them. You’ve become someone the sector knows and someone communities want to work with.
Who You Are
You've spent at least five years leading business development, sales-oriented marketing and communications, consulting, Indigenous relations, advisory services, or something close to it — with real responsibility for growth, not just support of it. You've secured projects and clients in multiple sectors, and you write and support successful proposals. You understand Indigenous governance, reconciliation, and First Nations, Inuit, and Métis realities and approaches. You have worked with and built a strong reputation with Indigenous communities across Canada. You can set a growth strategy for the firm. You can sit down and draft a proposal yourself. You can read financial statements to inform your decisions (but advanced accounting expertise is not required). You're patient and respectful. You know that in this work the relationship comes first. We encourage applications from qualified Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) candidates. Preference will be given to Indigenous candidates as part of a special program established under Section 14 of the Ontario Human Rights Code.
We encourage applications from people who have
- 5+ years of leadership experience in business development or a closely related field.
- Proven ability to build strong relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous clients.
- Experience working with senior leadership teams and reporting to a Board of Directors.
- Deep understanding of Indigenous governance, reconciliation, and community-centred development contexts in Canada.
- Experience with Federal, Provincial, Territorial, Municipal, and private sector procurement processes - RFPs, RFQs, and SOAs.
- Experience with Client Relationship Management (CRM) systems.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that support Indigenous communites and governments
- A supportive work environment that values Indigenous knowledge and perspectives
- Flexible schedule and ability to work from home
- 4 weeks’ vacation plus 2 discretionary days per year and 3 days between Christmas and New Year’s Day
- A comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance
- 10 paid sick days per year
- 12 statutory holidays each year
- RRSP matching plan
- Cell phone subsidy
- Commitment to your ongoing learning and development, including funding for professional development courses and 5 paid training days per year.
