R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 8 years of experience to join our Water and Wastewater team. In this role, you’ll contribute to a wide range of projects – from assessments and planning to design, approvals and construction administration – serving public, Indigenous, and select private sector clients. You’ll play a key part in delivering safe, sustainable, and cost-effective water and wastewater solutions.
Work where it suits you best — Mississauga, Guelph, Collingwood, Hamilton, Orangeville, or Woodstock — while enjoying opportunities to connect with our teams in other offices through occasional travel.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an Electrical Engineer on our Water and Wastewater team, you will:
- Contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of municipal, Indigenous, and private sector infrastructure projects.
- Develop practical, reliable, and cost-effective electrical solutions that support safe and sustainable water and wastewater systems.
- Apply your expertise at every stage of the project lifecycle—from assessments and studies through detailed design, approvals, and construction support.
- Work closely with engineers, technologists, and project managers to integrate electrical systems into broader infrastructure designs.
- Build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders by delivering high-quality technical solutions and clear communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of electrical design packages and technical specifications.
- Oversee coordination with utilities, contractors, and sub-consultants.
- Provide technical guidance during construction, including reviews of shop drawings and site progress.
- Support proposal development, cost estimating, and permitting activities.
- Conduct facility condition assessments and recommend improvements.
- Review and validate work prepared by others to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Mentor junior engineers and technologists.

What You Bring
- Eng. designation in Ontario
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in electrical design and project delivery.
- Strong knowledge of the CEC, OESC, and National/Ontario Building Codes.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD (Revit an asset).
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
Stand-Out Qualities Include
- Project management experience and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with AGI32 and/or Visual lighting software.
- Proven ability to lead client meetings and drive projects from concept through completion.
