POSITION FUNCTION:
The Accounting Clerk: Refugee and General Accounts, administers and maintains the accounts for the Private Sponsorship Program for Refugees in consultation with program staff and provides other accounting and clerical functions for the program.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain database for each recipient profile
-
Maintain up-to-date and accurate balance for each recipient
-
Maintain an accurate balance of deferred funds
-
Provide updates to the Private Sponsorship Program team
-
Maintain accurate general ledger (GL)
-
Add new accounting department codes for successful applications as required
-
Prepare journal entries to record transactions
-
Reconcile department codes and maintain database
-
Reconcile GL to Private Sponsorship Program accounts
-
Administer refugee expense payments
-
Create and maintain refugee banking profiles and schedule of payments
-
Ensure start-up and monthly expense amounts are distributed to refugees on schedule
-
Maintain backup documentation
-
Account for donations and other contributions to the Private Sponsorship Program
-
Ensure that donations and other contributions are deposited correctly to corresponding accounts and coded in GL
-
Ensure that donation receipts have been issued only as per CRA
-
Maintain backup documentation
-
Reconcile accounts monthly
-
Request transfers and cheques between accounts on monthly basis or as needed
-
Provide accounting support as it pertains to refugee resettlement based on criteria or prior approval by the Accounting Manager
-
Review and document expense claims submitted by the Private Sponsorship Program Team
-
Provide updates on actual spending as requested
-
Ensure that Program expenses, including payroll, are coded to the correct accounting department
-
Prepare journal entries as appropriate
-
Provide relief support for accounting clerks
-
Process payroll as needed
-
Prepare journal entries for upload
-
Ensure interest is calculated and allocated to the correct accounting department monthly
-
Prepare individual T3 return for each accounting department before annual filing deadline
-
Other accounting and clerical functions as assigned by Accounting Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge: Basic accounting principles; knowledge of BC Employment Standards and payroll is an asset; Office procedures, standard office equipment.
Education: Completion of secondary school and post-secondary education in accounting or business administration or equivalent experience
Skills/Abilities:

Experience with Sage 300, Sage APA (Beanworks) or similar software is an asset

Proficient in MS Office suite, particularly Excel

Ability to work individually or in a team

Good verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills

Effective organizational skills; attention to detail,

Ability to take initiative,

Ability to multitask

Tactful, discreet, diplomatic, patient, and flexible
Experience:

Two years of related accounts payables or accounting experience

Experience working in a non-profit and multicultural environment is an asset

COMPENSATION: $28.58-$29.25 per hour
HOURS: 35 hours per week; fixed term until October 19, 2026;
The successful candidate must be able to commute to 5575 Boundary Rd. Vancouver, British Columbia
BENEFITS:
A competitive benefits package is provided with contracts of at least 1 year in length and which offer a minimum of 17.5 hours of work per week.
