THE ROLE:

The Senior Manager, Internal Audit and Risk Management leads the internal and co-sourced audit teams in executing risk-based audits and ensuring compliance with regulations (e.g. Bill 198). Key responsibilities include developing audit plans, assessing the effectiveness of control design, and reporting to multiple levels of management. They also oversee team performance, facilitate decision-making, and deliver actionable recommendations to enhance corporate governance and minimize financial risks. In addition to this, the role also requires responsibility for providing sound advice and recommendations on internal controls and risk management activities, as well as project-based efficiency- driven initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Develop and execute a broad program of audits to evaluate and assess the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes,
  • Conduct risk assessments and identify areas of potential risk and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead and manage audit engagements, including planning, fieldwork, and reporting, ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
  • Monitor and report on the status of audit findings and recommendations, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Provide oral briefings to multiple levels of management.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with management.
  • Liaise and coordinate with external auditors as required.
  • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of processes through project participation, including evaluating the adequacy and appropriateness of internal controls, policy and procedure, and recommending improvements.
  • Increase the effectiveness of the compliance and risk management function through the development and execution of leading practices.
  • Provide guidance and support to audit team members, mentoring and developing their skills and abilities.
  • Assist in the development of AI risk management practices and internal controls.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Minimum 7 plus years internal/external audit and Sarbanes-Oxley/Bill 198 experience.
  • Accounting-related university degree.
  • Experience in the real estate industry an asset
  • Undergraduate degree with emphasis in Accounting, Finance or a related business field
  • Professional certification such as CPA, CIA, and CISA

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Experience in managing and leading a team
  • In-depth knowledge of auditing standards and techniques
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop and implement audit plans and programs
  • Experience with risk assessment and mitigation strategies
  • Experience in process analysis and documentation.
  • Experience in participating in project-based process improvement initiatives
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office, familiar with JD Edwards and Workiva GRC.
  • Analytical and detail oriented; able to assess quality, accuracy, completeness.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Deadline-oriented with the ability to self-manage and communicate multiple demands, timelines, dependencies and competing priorities.
  • Effective in working independently and in small teams.
  • Professional, organized, motivated and flexible.
  • Commitment to client service and continued learning.
