Reporting to the Live Supply Chain Science and Analytics Manager, the Live Supply Scientific Specialist and Analytics Support - 18-month Contract will be responsible for focusing research that develops a stronger Live Supply Chain value proposition for our Hatching Egg Producer, Broiler Farmer and Processing operation. To work with the Live Supply Chain leadership to prioritize efforts that strengthen our value proposition across the Live Supply Chain. To provide a vision to key developments within the Hatching Egg and Broiler business on advances in animal sciences through investigation in literature, benchmarking and engagement with academia.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Scientific activities include, but are not limited to: a. Research techniques and products that could improve quality and/or animal welfare for Maple Lodge Farms i. Act as lead of CROP Committee, and carry out regular status updates for Live Supply Chain Management ii. Develop trial plans, including potential economic impacts for Maple Lodge Farms and relevant literature data, for approval iii. Coordinate trial execution, data collection, and analysis with relevant business units iv. Interpret results and make informed recommendations on the adoption or allowance of the researched technique or product v. Act as primary contact for product vendors and other industry professionals during trial planning and execution vi. Maintain a database of approved products vii. Work with QA on maintaining SOPs and other documents related to the usage of approved products
  • Develop and maintain a cross-functional Project Library to track completed, failed, and ongoing projects i. Will include library of associated literature, outcomes, and monitoring programs in place ii. Covers Live Supply chain projects, and projects being run in conjunction with other departments
  • Attend industry education opportunities and trade shows to keep abreast of technical and product updates d. Support other business units in their research projects as necessary.
  • Analytic activities include, but are not limited to: a. Develop and maintain analytic tools to assist Live Supply Chain management, including ongoing analysis of implemented trial results b. Present interpretations of analytic results as needed. c. Carry out analysis of tech program data to develop recommendations for Grower Services d. Develop and maintain reports and databases for Live Supply Chain Management
  • Additional aspects of role: a. Vacation backup for Live Supply Chain Science and Analytics team as necessary b. Act as contact and resource for Quality Assurance in relation to Grower Services’ activities
  • Policies, Processes & Procedures: a. Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

What You Will Bring

  • 2 year of poultry industry, or a post-secondary degree in Animal Sciences or related field
  • Experience with digital processes and analytics
  • Must be able to handle vials of blood, live chickens, and view processing procedures
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WHMIS
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and effective multi-tasking is essential
  • Computer literacy (MS Office), SharePoint, some knowledge in Power BI, VBA
  • Post-Secondary Degree in Animal Sciences or a related field.
