About the Position

Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to fill a temporary role as a Designated Offload

Nurse in the Emergency Department. The Designated Offload Nurse will be required to receive all EMS patients

from Triage and act as first point of contact for patients. This includes primary assessment, utilizing proper

medical directives and other duties as assigned. You will also collaborate with the CPL or RN and ensure transfer

of patients to the ED is priority to support further EMS offload.

Education & Qualifications

  • Current registration in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario with no restrictions to practice

  • Current emergency nursing experience

  • Demonstrated practice reflecting the CNO professional standards of:

  • Service to the public

  • Knowledge

  • Application of Knowledge

  • Ethics

  • Continued competence

  • Professional Behaviour – accountability/responsibility

  • IV Certification

  • Current ACLS certificate preferred

  • Current CPR certificate – BCLS-C level

  • TNCC, ENPC, PALS, Critical Care or Emergency Care Certification preferred

  • Able to apply standards from the National Emergency Nursing Association and Canadian Association of Critical

Care Nurses to nursing practice

  • Able to work in fast turnaround areas and in critical patient situations

  • Good interpersonal skills and interdisciplinary relationships

  • Computer skills - familiar with Meditech order entry and documentation systems

  • Excellent attendance record and ability to work shifts, weekends and holidays as required.

  • Adherence to all health and safety policies, procedures and provisions and the recognition and reporting of

unsafe hazards and work practices

Hours of Work: Must be available to work a variety of shifts, weekends & Holidays as required.
