Manager, Load Forecasting
Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Dunsmuir 17
Employment type: Permanent Region: Lower Mainland
Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid
Annual salary: $ 158,900.00 - 200,900.00
What you'll do
The load forecast is a foundation of BC Hydro’s Integrated Resource Plans and is used across the company for capital
planning, operations planning, customer program design, revenue forecasting, and other functions.
Reporting to the Director of Energy Planning, the Manager, Load Forecast will lead a team and be responsible for:
- Leading the development, approval, and communication of the load forecasts to the Executive Team and the Board of
Directors
- Monitoring the performance of the load forecast and the development of continuous improvement processes to improve
that performance.
- Prioritizing technical and process improvements to our load forecast product suite through improved tools (i.e.,
methodologies, models and software), customer information gathering evaluation processes.
- Succinctly communicating developments in BC’s economic sectors, regulatory and political, technological landscape may
impact future demand for BC Hydro electricity to Directors, the Executive, the Board, the Regulator, the Government and
stakeholders.
- Overseeing and directly contributing to preparation of load forecast components of regulatory filings and related
proceedings, acting as a witness and preparing senior members of the team to do the same as part of succession planning.
- Initiating, building, and maintaining ongoing internal and external working relationships across the province, country and
continent.
Leadership and management skills & experience are critical factors in this role for the team to be successful.
Key capabilities are:
- As a member of the Energy Planning Leadership team, identifying and developing opportunities in collaboration with
Energy Planning colleagues that create a positive, collaborative, fun and high calibre culture that supports the periods of
high output and high impact work undertaken by this department and Key Business Unit.
- The ability to solve technical challenges in proper balance with generalist leadership that enables and entrusts work to
technical specialists.
- Exercising independent judgment in analysis and problem solving on highly complex, undefined, problems that are time
constrained and by their nature have imperfect information.
- The ability to mentor, coach, manage, and lead a multi-layered team in a manner that empowers Team Leads and builds
cohesiveness.
- Proven ability to lead and build collaborative, team-driven work plans for the department’s annual work and ex-plan
initiatives . In doing so, the successful candidate also will ensure coordination of the forecasting process with other
company processes such as regulatory applications and the annual capital planning cycle.
- Developing and implementing an annual resource management plan (financial, technical, people) that forecasts labour
and expenditures, balancing in-house expertise with external consultant support to deliver load forecasts.
What you bring
-
An undergraduate University degree in a relevant discipline such as economics or engineering.

Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience directly leading multi-disciplinary teams, developing and communicating
quantitative models.
- Proven ability to think independently, strategically and laterally, to highlight improvement opportunities, and lead teams
through change.
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and continuously, with one foot in the technical realm and the other in the strategic,
and acting as a bridge of communication between them.
- Clear, succinct communicator, both verbally and in writing, and the ability to modify the approach taken for different
audiences from technical specialists to the Board of Directors and the Provincial cabinet.

Well-developed facilitation, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
Preference given to candidates who can supplement these qualifications with:

A graduate degree in engineering, business or a related discipline.

Energy Load Forecasting specific leadership and/or technical experience.

Experience managing managers or team leads
-
Regulatory experience in participating in, leading others in, and/or acting as a witness in regulatory proceedings.

Government relations experience in working with and presenting information to senior government officials.

A network of professional relationships that would contribute to success in this role.

- While this is hybrid job headquartered at BC Hydro’s downtown Vancouver office, in office attendance is required, at
minimum three and sometimes up to five days a week.

Occasional travel may be required.
