Core Functions The Day/Night Manager is responsible for safety and surveillance in the Transitional Housing environment. Working jointly with the Coordinator and the Program Officer, the incumbent will report any infractions or incidents that occur in both the personal and shared spaces. Moreover, they will also be on site to provide support in case of any issue or emergency that may arise in the Transitional Housing Units environment.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Transitional Housing Units environment is safe and clean for staff and clientele.
  • Understand client security needs, site specifications, and security protocols.
  • Report any potential dangers to clients or staff immediately.
  • Ensure that clients comply with all conditions, including conditions of probation as applicable, while living within the Transitional Housing Units environment.
  • Maintain an up-to-date record of all visitors and ensure that they respect visiting rules and hours.
  • Advise clients when their behaviour is inappropriate and report any serious issues to the coordinator.
  • Contact emergency services (e.g. first responders, medical, fire, police) should they be needed in the Transitional Housing Units environment or during a program.
  • Oversea client mealtimes and be on the lookout for any problems.
  • Perform regular check-ins with clients during the day.
  • Communicate and deliver any schedules or notification of workshops to the clients/residents.
  • Complete reports as requested by the CTHP.
  • Regularly verify security and camera systems are operating correctly, and follow any storage protocols with respect to images or data collected to ensure records are preserved for a reasonable time period.
  • Provide assistance to the Program Officers with delivery of workshops when needed.

Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in area of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications Education:

  • High School Diploma.
  • College certificate in Security, Social Services, or a related field.
  • Training in security measures

Experience

  • One to three years of relevant work experience.

Language

  • Fluency in English and Cree.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.

Knowledge And Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proven ability to be discrete and maintain confidentiality.
  • Detail oriented with a keen sense of observation.
  • Sound understanding of security-specific protocols and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative.
  • Frontline work with Cree children, youth or adults in programming.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of Cree communities.
  • Frontline work with Cree children, youth or adults in programming is an asset.

Additional Requirements

  • Typical office setting where there are no unusual physical demands.
  • Willingness to participate in a training plan.
  • Must undergo a background check.

The Cree Nation Government may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the aforementioned requirements if a suitable candidate who is a JBNQA beneficiary accepts to follow a training plan determined by the Cree Nation Government as a condition of employment.

The Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee) represents the approximately 20,000 Crees of Eeyou Istchee. The Cree Nation Government exercises governmental and administrative functions on behalf of the Cree Nation. Both have identical membership, board of directors, governing structures and are managed and operated as one.

The Cree Nation Head Office is located in the community of Nemaska, although there are also satellite offices in other communities and Montreal. The two offices of the Embassy of the Cree Nation, located in Ottawa and Quebec City, are instrumental in upholding the Cree Nation’s relations with the federal and provincial governments and providing technical support to its 10 departments.
