Manager, People & Culture

About the role
We’re looking for an experienced People & Culture professional to lead everything people-related across our Lark Group and Head Office teams. This is a standalone role for someone who knows their craft, enjoys rolling up their sleeves, and thrives in a fast-paced, values-driven environment.
There’s no large HR team here. You’ll own it end to end — strategy and execution. If you like working in the grey, using judgment over rigid rules, and building solutions that actually work for real humans, you’ll feel right at home.
About Lark
We’re a development and construction company rooted in community. Our projects include ice rinks, schools, community centres, healthcare facilities, research labs, office buildings and spaces that genuinely make a difference.
Our core values guide how we work every day: Drive, Authentic, Respect, Elevate, Safety, and Bold. They aren’t posters on a wall — they show up in decisions, conversations, and how we treat people.
The Role
This role is both strategic and hands-on. You’ll be the go-to person for leaders and employees alike — trusted, practical, and grounded. You’ll shape how we attract, support, develop, and retain great people, while also being right in the details making it all happen.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll lead the full people lifecycle, including:
Recruitment & Hiring
- Partnering closely with leaders to hire great people who fit our culture and values
- Managing recruitment from intake to offer — practical, efficient, and human
Employee Relations
- Being a trusted advisor for employees and leaders
- Handling sensitive matters with care, fairness, and confidence
- Coaching leaders through real-world people challenges
Performance & Development
- Supporting leaders with performance management that’s clear, honest, and growth-focused
- Helping employees develop in ways that are individual, not one-size-fits-all
Compensation & Rewards
- Managing compensation frameworks, benchmarking, and increases
- Ensuring pay practices are fair, competitive, and aligned with the business
Policies, Programs & Culture
- Developing and maintaining policies that provide guidance — not bureaucracy
- Designing people programs that actually get used and add value
- Being a steward of our culture and values as we grow
HR OPerations
- Ensuring compliance with employment standards and best practices
- Managing contracts, documentation, and core HR processes
- Keeping things practical, organized, and fit for purpose
Who You Are
- You’re experienced, grounded, and genuinely good with people.
- You’ve worked in a senior HR / People & Culture role and know what you’re doing
- You’re a doer — comfortable building, fixing, and executing, not just advising
- You have exceptional people skills and strong judgment
- You’re calm in complexity and confident making decisions without perfect information
- You prefer principles over rigid rules and understand nuance
- You’re energized by fast pace, change, and responsibility
- You’re values-led, people-first, and not afraid to have real conversations
Why This Role is Special
- You’ll have real influence and autonomy
- You’ll work directly with leaders who genuinely value their people
- You’ll help shape how the company grows, one person at a time
- You’ll be trusted to do what’s right — not just what’s written down
- You’ll be part of a company that treats people as individuals, not headcount
What We Offer
- We take care of our people — genuinely and holistically. This role comes with a competitive compensation package and benefits that reflect the value of the work and the impact of the role.
- Salary: $120,000–$130,000, depending on experience
- Profit Share: Annual profit share paid each December
- Benefits: Extended Health & Dental — 100% company paid
- Retirement: 4% RRSP matching
- Professional Development: Coverage for professional dues
- Personal Spending Account: $750 annually
- Phone: Phone allowance or company phone provided
- Parking: Free on-site parking
- Wellness: On-site gym access
- Leadership: Supportive, down-to-earth leadership and genuinely a great boss - demanding yes, but elevating, empowering and fun (if you can make a great cup of tea!!)
Beyond the perks, you’ll be trusted, supported, and given the autonomy to do meaningful work in a company that values people as individuals — not policies or headcount. If you’re someone who believes HR should be human, practical, and impactful — and you enjoy working where trust, values, and purpose matter — this could be the role you’ve been waiting for.
