Essential Functions
Assembly Operations & Employee Development
- Onboard and develop new and existing employees on assembly processes, work instructions, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate training records including completion status, competency assessments, and required sign-offs.
- Provide hands-on assembly support.
- Identify knowledge gaps and recommend improvements to training materials and onboarding processes.
Material Handling
- Provide coverage for material handling duties including moving, staging, and organizing parts and components.
- Support kitting operations and ensure assembly workstations are stocked with required materials.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment as required.
Relief Shift Lead
- Act as relief shift lead as required, including assigning work, coordinating workflow, and supporting employees.
- Communicate production issues, delays, personnel concerns, and safety matters promptly to supervision.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees during the shift in the absence of the supervisor.
Shipping & Receiving Support
- Assist with packaging, labeling, and staging of finished goods for outbound shipment.
- Ensure shipments are prepared in compliance with work instructions and customer specifications.
- Support receiving functions, including verifying incoming materials against purchase orders.
Safety & Quality
- Adhere to and enforce all safety rules, PPE requirements, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and safe work practices.
- Ensure all work is completed to applicable quality standards and approved work instructions.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, safety audits, and 5S activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of assembly processes, work instructions, and quality standards in a metal fabricating environment.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, BOMs, and work orders.
- ERP system experience for data entry and scheduling support.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Forklift and material handling equipment operation (certification required or ability to obtain).
- Strong Communication skills.
- Able to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing production demands.
- Detail-oriented with strong strong documentation, record-keeping, and data accuracy skills.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary training in manufacturing or a related field is an asset.
- 3 -5 years of experience in a manufacturing or metal fabricating environment, with solid hands-on assembly knowledge.
- Prior experience in a lead, mentorship, or informal supervisory role is strongly preferred.
- Exposure to material handling, shipping/receiving, and basic production planning is an asset.
