About the role
Job Duties
- Alert the plant about the arrival of vehicles to the site
- Document unit numbers/carrier information of vehicles entering and leaving the site
- Document the incoming and outgoing weights of vehicles entering and leaving the site
- Document the arrival/departure times for vehicles entering and leaving the site
- Calculation and documentation of net weights for vehicles entering and leaving the site
- Report documented data with respect to unit numbers/carrier information, times on and off site, gross weights, tare weights and net weights.
- Provision of scale tickets to the operators of vehicles and to plant staff.
- Maintain the records containing information related to vehicles/times and weights.
- Enter records of information documented outside of the standardized system.
- Provide accurate and efficient information
- Direct vehicles using the site to location of the appropriate personnel for further processing
- Other tasks as assigned.
Secondary duties could involve:
- Developing an understanding the GFL Pickering ECA, TDG and Reg. 347 and how they apply to day to day operations
- Documenting the receiving of incoming waste from manifests, bills of lading and work orders within OMS;
- Data entry as it pertains to completed laboratory analytical data referring to the associated manifest, bill of lading and work order information in a timely manner;
- Working closely with Laboratory and Operations to manage the waste documentation/classification on hold process;
- Completing document/waste receiving process in OMS, including the attachment of scanned receiving documents and preparation of the OMS file for transfer to billing review;
- Working closely with Operations to track the on-site waste inventory with respect to processing;
- Working closely with Dispatch and Operations to track the on-site waste inventory/document preparation with respect to outgoing shipments;
- Work closely with the IT development team to integrate the module into day-to-day operations;
- Prepare waste diversion and other related reports for customers upon request;
- Provide OMS receiving support to other GFL locations, including when required, assignment to other locations;
- Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Desire and motivation to gain knowledge about the industry in multiple facets to develop professional skills within the waste management space;
- High School Diploma or Adult Education Credential (CAEC)
- Related experience and/or training
- Experience with customer service preferred.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English
- Perform basic mathematics in determining the difference between weights of trucks. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Read and accurately record scale readings and times
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public
- Deal with public and general contractors and suppliers courteously and tactfully
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, talk, and hear
- Visual Requirements: include close vision and distance vision
- Possess ability to occasionally lift/move up to 10 pounds.
- Excellent communication skills in oral and written English
- Ability to independently resolve problems within one’s scope of authority and understanding of when to escalate to superiors
- Solid personal integrity and dedication
- Ability to work without supervision;
- Willing to work overtime, alternate shifts and occasional weekends
