Working for VIA Rail is being a part of a collective effort in sustainable mobility. The incumbent directs the VIA’s Corporate Operations Control Center (OCC). The Sr Operations Control Officer is the team leader within the OCC. As such, his job is to ensure that on a daily basis a high quality of work and a high level professionalism are maintained. The Sr Officer Operations Control is responsible for short term fleet assignment.The Sr Officer Operations Control is also the first point of reference for the Operations Control Officer, Crew Management Officer and Network Communications Officer and verifies that their daily tasks and assignments are properly performed.   Responsibilities:

Cycle equipment on a daily basis preparing for next day operations. Including ad hoc calls and discussions with MMC / TMC controllers Activities related to train performance reporting, staff scheduling, Performance management, coaching Controllers and supervising overall OCC operation Investigate and follow up on train delays, mechanical and system issues. Coordinates activities during incidents / accidents / emergencies Respond to Network Planning demand request, plan and execute holiday cycling with allotment of equipment (targets)  taking availability into account and restrictions, including a transition plan Organize, host and attend daily conference calls for operational and technical issues. Verify Morning report and process information. Ensure equipment maintenance requests are respected, (“C” inspections, QUAD, single car, etc.) Conclude incident files and communicates with the TSB as required Twice a year update the base with the new cycling plan provided by NP. Twice a year create a transition plan from the old cycling plan to the new.

  Requirements:

College diploma in Transportation or related field or a combination of equivalent training and pertinent experience. Minimum of five years of experience in Operations within the Transportation industry. Minimum of three years working at a control center and qualified on crewing, OPS and Equipment cycling positions Knowledge with VIA train operations and system geography (asset) Knowledge of VIA’s internal resources/structure and where to obtain specific information (an asset).

  Competencies:

Must be technically savvy and capable of quickly learning/using a wide variety of technology systems and able to navigate complex computer systems. Very good written and verbal communications skills in both official languages. Excellent organizational and planning abilities. Sound judgment and ability to make quality decisions under severe time constraints. Strong attention to detail. Ability to adapt in a constantly changing and tense environment. Solid problem-solving skills. Team player capable to promote and maintain harmonious relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
