  • Compensation: $50 per hour (This includes facilitation time, initial 1-hour prep session for curriculum orientation, and 1-hour technology orientation)

About the Role

Stenberg College is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Workshop Facilitator to deliver a one-day American Sign Language (ASL) workshop for students enrolled in our Special Education Assistant (SEA) Diploma Program. This interactive and engaging workshop is designed to provide students with a foundational understanding and conversational skills in ASL, preparing them to better support Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in educational settings.

Facilitation materials will be provided, along with a one-hour prep session with our Curriculum, Learning & Teaching Specialist and a one-hour technology orientation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate a 6-hour ASL workshop via Moodle Collaborate.
  • Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction using the provided workshop materials.
  • Introduce students to the basics of ASL and Deaf culture, with an emphasis on practical, conversational skills relevant to education assistants.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and supportive online learning environment.
  • Adapt to learner needs and encourage active participation and practice.
  • Attend a 1-hour paid preparation session with the Curriculum, Learning & Teaching Specialist to review workshop curriculum.
  • Attend a 1-hour paid orientation session to learn about Moodle and Collaborate technologies.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language at a conversational level; formal ASL education or certification is an asset.
  • General knowledge of Deaf culture and communication needs in educational settings.
  • Experience in teaching, facilitating workshops, or training adults, ideally in an online environment.
  • Post-secondary education or relevant credentials in education, special education, ASL, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort with technology and ability to facilitate using online tools (Moodle and Collaborate).
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm for adult education and student success.
  • Commitment to creating inclusive, engaging, and interactive learning experiences.
