ABOUT YOU

You are a results-driven leader with a broad understanding of accounting and auditing principles. With experience in financial management and stewardship, you bring a strategic approach to leadership, analysis, and communication. You possess a valid CPA designation as well as at least 7 years of financial management experience.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance & Operations. The Director, Finance & Operations is responsible for leading the execution and oversight of financial operations and the Finance team. This role includes managing restricted and unrestricted funds, preparing financial reports for stakeholders, and supporting United Way British Columbia’s (UWBC’s) mission through sound financial stewardship while driving continuous improvement and overseeing the Finance team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities: Financial Management & Reporting

  • Accountable for Finance and Donor Services key performance indicators, financial timelines, and financial statement integrity.
  • Oversee all accounting operations including restricted fund accounting, donor services, capital, payroll, and financial reporting; responsibilities include monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting and audit, cash flow analysis and treasury, and government remittances and correspondence.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with governing bodies and support the budgeting process.
  • Ensure accurate and timely regulatory filings.
  • Monitor and report on budget variances and financial performance to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities: Restricted Fund Accounting

  • Maintain accurate records of restricted and designated funds, ensuring compliance with donor intent and legal requirements.
  • Track and report on fund balances, allocations, and expenditures.
  • Collaborate with program leads to ensure proper use and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds.

Key Responsibilities: Audit & Compliance

  • Lead the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and preparing all necessary documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, CRA regulations, and funder requirements.
  • Develop and maintain financial policies and best practices in alignment with governing bodies, including CRA, GAAP, and other regulations.

Key Responsibilities: Strategic Planning & Leadership

  • Focused leadership, to drive departmental outcomes and team performance.
  • Lead finance, donor services, and payroll staff and foster a culture of accountability, transparency and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and organizational development through financial reporting.
  • Advise senior leadership on financial implications of strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate with other United Ways and the movement to UWBC through shared best practices and innovation.

Key Responsibilities: Investment & Cash Management

  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and investment portfolios in accordance with board-approved policies.
  • Monitor and report on the liquidity and financial sustainability of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • CPA designation required.

Experience**:**

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in the non-profit or charitable sector.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, advanced in excel and other business analytical tools such as Power BI required.
  • Experience with ADP and Salesforce CRM an asset.

Skills**:**

  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Must be located in the Lower Mainland.
  • Must be able to come into the office at least three (3) days per week.

This is an exempt role. This position is at $107,950.00 annually.

Candidates must live within 80 KMs (commuting distance) from our Burnaby office as this position will report to the Chief Financial Officer who is based in Burnaby.
