We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Production Manager ! This role is at our Clarkson Plant located in Mississauga, ON, and reports to the Plant Manager.
Job Summary The Production Manager oversees all aspects of the manufacturing process to ensure high-quality output, operations efficiency, and compliance with the health, safety and environmental standards. This position leads a team of Production Supervisors and collaborates
closely with cross-functional departments and stakeholders, including HSE, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to effectively plan work and meet production demands. Additionally, the role plays a key part in shaping the people strategy and driving talent development within the Production Department
Key Responsibilities Production Operations
- Coordinate production schedules to meet customer demand while managing inventory levels, minimizing overtime, and controlling production costs.
- Drive efficient, high-quality manufacturing processes. Identify and resolve quality and/or performance issues with corrective and preventive action plans.
- Prepare and analyze operating reports, including production output, downtime, scrap rates and variances by machine and shift.
- Present operational data to Managers, Supervisors, and Employees to explain results, goals and implement methods to achieve high efficiency, high regrind use, and low scrap generation with minimal downtime.
- Complete daily backflush and balance/close work orders using MES Management Operating System software.
- Effectively run shift transition meetings to review daily safety, operational data, quality, schedule objectives and maintenance priorities.
- Monitor and manage departmental spending; provide monthly expenditure reports to the Plant Manager.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards and maintain accurate documentation.
- Oversee the storage and usage of packaging materials, regrind, and raw materials.
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and support Production Supervisors and staff, including task assignments, coaching and performance reviews.
- Support employee development through training, coaching, and mentoring. Contribute to training programs, succession planning, and strategies for talent attraction and retention.
- Implement best practices and continuous improvement projects focused on cost reductions and process optimization.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of operator procedures and training across all personnel.
- Lead recruitment efforts for Production personnel as needed.
Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance
- Champion a strong safety culture focused on zero workplace injuries. Ensure timely reporting of near misses, hazardous conditions, and first aid incidents to the proper HSE staff, and collaborate on preventive initiatives.
- Participate in the JHSC meetings, accident investigations, and implementation of return-to-work programs.
- Lead and continuously improve the 5S program to maintain clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Lead initiatives to improve safety, product quality, production costs, and operational efficiency.
- Manage the storage and disposal of non-hazardous solid waste in accordance with facility guidelines.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience Education & Certificates:
- Completion of college and/or university in engineering or manufacturing or equivalent experience required.
Technical Skills & Experience
- At least 5 years of experience in leadership positions in manufacturing with proven ability to deliver desired results, preferably in a 24/7 environment.
- Experience in strategic planning, resource allocation, employee relations, leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources.
- Prior experience with ISO 9001 an asset.
- Proven track record of performance improvement in a leadership role.
- Technical understanding of production planning techniques, achieving quality standards, and lean manufacturing expected.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental practices in a manufacturing environment.
