Position: Human Resources Generalist
Department: Human Resources
Reports to: General Manager
Location: Blacks Harbour, NB, Canada **Onsite**
Purpose
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for supporting a broad range of HR functions, with a primary focus on employee relations, labour relations, and performance management. This role partners closely with leaders and employees to foster a fair, respectful, and compliant workplace. The HR Generalist provides guidance on workplace issues, supports union interactions, ensures compliance with employment legislation, and contributes to a positive and high-performing organizational culture.
This role offers opportunities for professional growth, with potential for advancement based on performance and organizational needs.
Essential Duties
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, including workplace concerns, investigations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes.
- Support and administer the performance management process, including goal setting, evaluations, coaching, and corrective action.
- Provide guidance to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and employment legislation, particularly within a unionized environment.
- Support labour relations activities, including collective agreement interpretation, grievance administration, and preparation for arbitration.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with union representatives and support day-to-day labour relations matters.
- Coordinate and support the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process, including documentation, tracking, and compliance requirements.
- Liaise with government agencies, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders on immigration and foreign worker program matters.
- Assist with internal and external HR audits, ensuring documentation and practices meet labour, immigration, and compliance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable provincial and federal employment, labour, and immigration legislation.
- Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and programs to support organizational objectives and best practices.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention initiatives, particularly for critical or hard-to-fill roles.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and audit-ready employee records and HR documentation.

Other Duties
- Coach and support managers in employee relations, performance improvement, and employee engagement practices.
- Contribute to workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational development initiatives.
- Prepare HR reports, metrics, and documentation to support decision-making and compliance requirements.
- Support health and safety programs, accommodations, and return-to-work coordination as needed.
- Monitor legislative updates and recommend proactive changes to HR policies and practices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support organizational needs.

Education, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, with a strong focus on employee relations and performance management.
- Experience working in a unionized environment, including exposure to grievance handling and collective agreements.
- Familiarity with immigration processes (LMIA experience considered an asset).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and HRIS systems (Dayforce preferred).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and provide guidance at all organizational levels.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Comfortable working in a production environment, including periods of walking and standing.
