About The CRLCSA Project The “Transformation of Agricultural Value Chains Towards Low-Carbon, Climate Resilient Pathways in Kenya 2025-2031” (CRLCSA) project was developed by the Cooperative Partnership for Climate Smart Food and Forestry, Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)and the Government of Kenya, with Agriterra as the main co-executing partner. The project will foster the emergence of climate-resilient, low-carbon, environmentally sustainable, and financially viable agriculture value chains. The project will accelerate the transfer of technology, knowledge, assets, and services with a focus on cooperatives as key agents to leverage rural change and climate resilience. The project focuses on six priority value chains: dairy, poultry, coffee, tea, fruit trees, and African leafy vegetables in the Lake Region Economic Block. The project has a total budget of USD 50 million over six years, including a grant of USD29.2 million from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), which will be supplemented with funding from the FAO and the Government of Kenya, in addition to co-funding from Denmark.
About The Job For this role, Agriterra is looking for a Cooperative Advisor who can provide expert advice and coordinate advisory trajectories with reputable cooperatives and farmer organisations in counties in the LREB. You will have an advisory and coaching role in building development trajectories aimed at strengthening cooperatives and farmers’ organisations and making them more resilient to climate shocks. To achieve this, the successful candidate will initiate and maintain a network that will include cooperatives and farmers’ organisations, financial institutions, traders, service providers, and other stakeholders in the value chains, depending on the area of work. He/she will initiate and guide change trajectories with cooperatives selected, and will lobby, mediate, and support negotiation processes, as well as prepare business deals. Duties
Cooperative advisory work
- Support the Senior & Medior Cooperative Advisors in assessing and selecting cooperatives and farmer organisations for participation in CRLCSA. Support project implementation with selected cooperatives in conducting advisory work, such as preparing and implementing scoping, cooperative assessments, and assisting in developing action plans
Action Planning and Contract Management
- Assist selected farmer cooperatives in developing annual action plans with Agriterra. Prepare and manage contracts between targeted cooperatives and Agriterra
Implementation and Follow-Up
- Support execution of action plans and follow-up activities. Develop performance objectives and coaching work plans with target organisations in collaboration with the Lead Cooperative Advisor
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Collect and record project and client data in Agriterra’s M&E systems.
- Assist the Project Lead with planning, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of interventions.
- Prepare timely monthly and end-of-mission reports.
Stakeholder Engagement and Representation
- Maintain strong working relationships with all CRLCSA partners.
- Represent Agriterra in relevant value chain meetings, workshops, consultations, and field visits
What do you bring Educational background
- You have a Bachelor’s degree in agri-business, business economics, finance, cooperative management, or a related field,
Experience
- Your career shows at least 2 years of relevant work experience with demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more of Agriterra’s key result areas, such as cooperative business development, market development, agricultural services, governance, or financial management
Sector Knowledge
- Your understanding and experience in project monitoring and evaluation will be an added advantage
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
- Your fluent English skills (oral and written) connect with diverse audiences, and additional languages are a major plus.
Other Requirement
- Your advanced Microsoft Office skills make it easy to streamline administrative tasks.
- You are willing to travel regularly to project sites and partner organisations
