About this Position

In coordination with the Design Project Leader, Engineer of Record, and project stakeholders, the Electrical Designer develops "Best for Project" electrical, automation, and communication system designs for permanent mine infrastructure and temporary sinking installations. The role emphasizes safe, operable, and constructible solutions for underground and surface mining facilities, with a focus on automation, instrumentation, communication, and power systems.

Health and Safety

  • Work in compliance with all Cementation Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Identify health and safety hazards or infractions and report them to the Health and Safety Department.
  • Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met through appropriate design and use of technology.
  • Act as a safety champion by promoting safe behaviours and integrating safety into all designs produced by the group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and draft permanent and temporary works for underground mine shafts, facilities, and associated infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Project Services and Operations to deliver "Best for Project" solutions that are safe, constructible, and aligned with client operability requirements.
  • Deliver complete and accurate design packages on time, on budget, and within the approved project scope.
  • Develop electrical, automation, and communication system designs for underground and surface mining facilities, including:
  • Produce engineering deliverables such as P&IDs, loop diagrams, I/O lists, control narratives, network diagrams, and panel wiring drawings.
  • Ensure designs meet operational, reliability, safety, and cybersecurity requirements appropriate for mining environments.
  • Integrate power, automation, instrumentation, and communication designs into coordinated, multi-disciplinary 3D project models.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Post-secondary Technician or Technology Diploma (required).
  • Engineering Degree (considered an asset).
  • Minimum 5 years of electrical drafting and design experience.
  • Previous experience in heavy construction, mining, or fabrication environments.
  • OACETT registration (considered an asset).

Assets

  • Strong understanding of:
  • Expert proficiency in: AutoCAD, Advance Steel, Vault (latest versions)
  • Working knowledge of at least one 3D parametric platform: Inventor, Plant 3D, or equivalent
  • Autodesk Inventor, Revit, and DOCS (considered assets)
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and OneNote

Travel Requirements:

  • Occasional travel to project sites to support construction activities
