The Richmond Olympic Oval is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to maintain and advance our technology infrastructure. This hands-on role ensures the reliability, performance, and security of both on-premises and cloud-based systems that support daily operations and specialized Olympic and sport simulation technologies. You’ll collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and end users to deliver secure, efficient, and high-performing IT services while contributing to the Oval’s ongoing technology modernization.

Responsibilities may occasionally require working evenings or weekends to support planned maintenance or critical operations with short notice.

Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure & Systems Administration

    • Administer, monitor, and maintain core infrastructure systems including physical and virtual servers, storage, backup, and cloud environments (Microsoft 365 and Azure).
    • Ensure system availability, security, and performance through proactive monitoring, patching, and optimization.
    • Plan and execute system upgrades, configurations, and lifecycle management following IT change management processes.
    • Manage and maintain Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and identity management integrations.
    • Support and maintain enterprise applications and ensure integration with other business systems.
    • Develop and maintain technical documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures.

Network & Security

    • Manage and support LAN/WAN infrastructure, VPNs, firewalls, switches, and wireless systems to ensure reliable connectivity.

    • Maintain network security, access controls, and threat protection systems in alignment with cybersecurity best practices.

    • Collaborate with the Manager to enhance network performance and resilience.

    • Monitor and troubleshoot network performance issues and implement improvements as needed.

      End-User & Device Support

    • Provide Tier 2/3 technical support to IT staff and end users, ensuring timely resolution of complex issues.

    • Manage endpoint deployment, patching, and configuration using tools such as Microsoft Intune or equivalent.

    • Support and maintain peripherals including printers, workstations, and mobile devices.

    • Ensure a positive and efficient user experience through excellent communication and service delivery.

Audiovisual & Specialized Systems

    • Administer and support the organization’s audiovisual systems, including boardroom technology, presentation equipment, and portable A/V solutions.
    • Maintain and troubleshoot Olympic and sport simulation technologies to ensure optimal performance.
    • Manage A/V equipment inventory and assist with event setup and technical support as required.

Continuous Improvement & Collaboration

    • Recommend and implement system and process improvements to enhance reliability, performance, and user satisfaction.
    • Assist in defining and executing infrastructure strategies aligned with organizational goals.
    • Share technical expertise and collaborate with team members to support skill development and cross-training.
    • Maintain strong relationships with internal departments and external vendors to ensure effective service delivery.
    • Provide monthly status and system health reports to the Manager of Information Technology & Innovation, highlighting key activities, system performance, and improvement opportunities.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

    • Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
    • 6+ years of experience in systems or network administration supporting a medium to large enterprise environment.
    • Industry certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, VMware or Nutanix certification, Palo Alto Networks Certified Administrator, or CompTIA Network+/Security+ considered an asset.
    • Experience supporting audiovisual systems or specialized simulation technologies.
    • Familiarity with ITIL or formal change management processes.

Skills and Abilities

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in plain language.
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical work with collaborative teamwork and customer service.
    • Self-motivated, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning and professional growth.
    • Able to work occasional evenings or weekends to support maintenance or critical systems when required.

Salary and Benefits: $88,609 - $111,294 per annum + this position is eligible for on-call premium.
