About the 10 South General Internal Medicine & Cardiology Unit We are a 24-bed unit with a mix of General Internal Medicine and Cardiology patients primarily requiring medical management for their acute illness that include congested heart failure, pneumonia, COPD, cancer and related complications, gastro-intestinal and other disorders. Our nurses work within an inter-professional team structure and maintain optimal nurse-to-patient ratios across shifts
In This Role You Will
- Provide direct patient and family centered care for general internal medicine and cardiology patients
- Complete physical assessments on patients
- Administer medications and provide any necessary care (wound care, IV insertion and management, monitoring drains, prepare patients for procedures, etc.)
- Attend nursing rounds and safety huddles, and participate in patient/family meetings
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, pharmacists, social workers, clinical nurse specialists, etc.
- Apply a broad range of nursing skills including (but not exclusive to) CADD pumps, nephrostomy tubes, complex wounds, central lines, enteral feeding tubes, TPN, CIWA monitoring, managing a Code Blue, and chemotherapy
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
Job Requirements Mandatory
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Graduate of a CNO-approved practical nursing program.
- Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
Preferred
- 2 years of recent acute care clinical experience
