About the role
Clean Harbors located at the Suncor Fort Hills plant is seeking a Hazardous Waste Specialist (Class 3 licensed) to join their safety conscious team! Known internally as an Insite Chemist, the successful candidate will be responsible for working both indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, and customer sites.
Rotation Schedule : 7 days on, 7 days off schedule, 12 hr. shifts. flights provided from Calgary or Edmonton. Camp accommodations available.

Responsibilities
- Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.
- Maintains excellent customer relations.
- Research and interpret relevant legislation, regulations and standards applicable to operations.
- Maintain the Hazardous Waste Storage area in compliance with provincial and federal regulations.
- Operate 18 Speed Flatbed truck with a truck mounted forklift.
- Create waste profiles by following a structured questionnaire to gather information and build accurate waste profiles.
- Assess waste for proper classification and determine corrective actions such sorting, re-labeling, re-packaging as required.
- Research and verify chemical compatibility for lab packing activities to ensure safe handling, storage and transportation.
- Ensure proper segregation, secondary containment and labeling of hazardous materials.
- Prepare and complete all required paperwork for hazardous waste shipments in compliance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG).
- Understand customer specific disposal requirements.
- Report work-related accidents and incidents to supervision in a timely manner.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- 1-3 Years experience of Hazardous Waste Management
- Class 3 License is a requirement.
- Forklift tickets are an asset
- Proficiency in standard software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Ability to learn and navigate specialized systems or applications relevant to operations
- Willing to travel on a 7 on and 7 off schedule.
