How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Technologist, Flood Risk Management provides technical support, planning, design and coordination to the Flood Risk Management portfolio. This position participates in TRCA’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides support in the development of Terms of References and initiates and completes TRCA’s procurement process and retains external consultants
  • Coordinate proposal evaluation, including establishing evaluation committees, circulating proposals, developing evaluation forms and matrices, hosting evaluation committee meetings
  • Provides technical support to external consultants retained to complete projects including meeting schedules, background data collection, and site visits schedule
  • Reviews technical submissions, including correspondence, reports, design drawings, and models,
  • Communicates project status, technical issues, and results to senior staff
  • Schedules site visits, meetings, open houses, and public meetings, as required per project workplan
  • Completes QA/QC reviews of work submitted by external consultants in support of capital projects to ensure compliance with TRCA and Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) standards and guidelines
  • Provides assistance in engineering report preparation for various projects including preparing maps, figures and tables
  • Represent the Authority’s interest as a member of internal/external committees, at public meetings and open houses, and in the review of external agency document
  • Provides support and project information to TRCA’s municipal partners for municipal engineering projects
  • Supports Flood Hazard Identification and Mapping program funded flood plain mapping studies.
  • Continue to advance knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, in an effort to establish solid foundation of technical knowledge.

What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Water Resources, Environmental or Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology or related discipline
  • Have the ability to obtain P.Eng, LET, CET, or C.Tech designation
  • Valid Ontario Class G2 driver's license

Experience

  • 3+ years of experience (could be co-op, summer or intern) related to water resources, environmental or civil engineering, engineering technology, project management, flood forecasting and warning or a related environmental field

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies

  • Knowledge of engineering support software (GIS/CAD (ARC GIS, AutoCAD, Microstation) and hydrologic/hydraulic computer models (Visual OTTHYMO (VO), SWMM/PCSWMM, HEC-RAS; and experience in 2D modeling is an asset.
  • Demonstrated time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with the general public in a positive, courteous and respectful manner
  • Able to comprehend documentation that is technical or scientific in nature, skilled in writing technical reports or manuals
  • Able to self-manage workload and prioritize tasks as an ongoing challenge in a frequently fluctuating workload and multiple deadlines
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint; advanced MS Excel capabilities for analysis, data visualization
