NWI Precision specializes in high-precision machining of helicopter masts, turbine shafts, engine thrust links, and nuclear pressure vessel components for the aerospace and nuclear industries worldwide. Operating from a 120,000 sq. ft. facility at 9 Fenmar Drive in Toronto, our dedicated team is committed to delivering the highest quality products to specifications and on time. We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join our team. The Quality Engineer is responsible for quality engineering, new product introduction and process controls for the assigned customers. They lead communications with internal and external stakeholders, develop quality plans, support operational issues and FAIs / RCCAs. They are a champion of continuous improvement and compliance of assigned processes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Interpret and understand customer quality requirements from drawings, specs, customer quality clauses, ensuring flawless execution in the completed part. Ability to learn and maintain different quality requirement identified by the program including developing the control plan, Performing FAI, submissions to customers and maintain change control verification. Implement methods to inspect, test and evaluate the reliability of manufacturing processes, products and production equipment including perform correlation studies and Gauge R&R. Raise and manage non-conformities and support process owner for conducting root cause and corrective actions. Work in conjunction with Engineering and Operations to ensure that required quality controls are implemented and followed and Support Quality Inspectors in order to ensure products and processes comply with the relevant quality management system requirements. Direct management of customer relationship customers to identify and understand their requirements to flow down them to related departments and suppliers if applicable and work with them to make sure all applicable requirements are in place. Maintain compliance to project timelines, consistently meeting customer deadlines, and contribute to the AS9100 Quality Management System. Provide and manage KPI tracking/reporting and initiatives to calculate COQ. Lead customer visits to NWI for product or process reviews, identify opportunities for improvement and perform internal audits for preparation. Be able to do MRB disposition and prepare FAI inspection quality plan. Lead FMEA and risk mitigation. Create and maintain company quality documentation such as Procedures, work instructions, quality standards, and QA related reports. Lead training sessions in support of those standards. Lead quality improvements activities including KAIZEN events and provide action plans. Promote quality awareness throughout the organization and mentor other members of the quality team if required. Responsible for continuous improvement activity. Coaching new hired quality engineers. Complete additional projects and responsibilities as required.
EXPECTATIONS: Develop quality dashboard to track all applicable Quality KPIs including but not limited to Rework, scrap, NCR, MRB, RMA, CI, Kaizen, customer audit findings, perform trend analysis and find opportunities for improvement. Perform proper internal audit, documentation review and preparation for customer audits to achieve maximum one major/ One minor Findings, Work with different departments the quality related tasks completed Work on repeating issues with process owners to find robust and effective solutions Be punctual and prepared to begin work at the scheduled start time every day. Plan vacation, personal time, and absences responsibly in accordance with company policy and operational needs. QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: University degree in Mechanical Engineering / Aerospace Engineering, or similar discipline. ASQ certifications such as CQE, CQM, CQA preferred Green Belt Six Sigma certification
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE: 3-10 years of work experience in highly regulated quality environment in aerospace
SKILS: Deep Knowledge of AS 9100 quality system requirements GD&T ASME Y14.5 Gage R&R Deep understanding of RCCA/8D corrective action process required Knowledge of SPC, Lean, and Six Sigma (Certifications an asset), and FMEA Internal audit certification Deep Knowledge of AS13100, evaluation and auditing Deep knowledge and experience in use of CMM, mechanical and visual inspections DSQR know how Daily SPC Analysis
ABILITIES: Excellent computer skills (MS Office – World, Excel, PowerPoint) ERP exposure an asset Strong written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Customer and relationship-building focus.
