We are currently seeking a Site Safety Coordinator for our upcoming project in Halifax who will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment across all construction activities. This role supports the development and implementation of safety programs, ensures compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, and provides ongoing guidance and training to site personnel. The Site Safety Coordinator works closely with the Site Superintendent and Head Office to monitor safety performance, conduct inspections and investigations, and drive continuous improvement in safety standards across the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of company safety programs, including Safe Work Practices, Safe Job Procedures, site documentation, and Emergency Response Plans
  • Monitor and enforce safe work practices across the job site, ensuring all workers and contractors are compliant with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Provide guidance on PPE requirements and ensure proper selection, implementation, and usage
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, including daily attendance, safety records, supply requisitions, and WCB compliance
  • Lead and facilitate site orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety communications for all site personnel and subcontractors
  • Monitor and promote the safe operation of tools, equipment, and heavy machinery, providing coaching and education as needed
  • Investigate and document incidents, near misses, injuries, and theft, ensuring timely reporting and implementation of corrective actions
  • Conduct regular site inspections and act as a liaison with provincial Occupational Health & Safety authorities
  • Prepare and provide safety reports to the Site Superintendent and Head Office as required
  • Deliver internal safety training, including fall protection, WHMIS, and MSDS, where certified to do so
  • Identify potential hazards and recommend continuous improvements to safety standards and practices
  • Ensure proper tracking, labeling, and documentation of all materials in accordance with MSDS requirements
  • Maintain records related to equipment inventory, inspections, and maintenance schedules
  • Recommend and coordinate external safety training where appropriate
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a safety-related role, preferably within the construction industry
  • Strong working knowledge of current Safe Work Practices, Safe Job Procedures, and applicable provincial Occupational Health & Safety regulations
  • Demonstrated experience conducting site inspections, incident investigations, and implementing corrective actions
  • Experience leading site orientations, toolbox talks, and delivering safety training (e.g., WHMIS, fall protection)
  • Knowledge of WCB processes, reporting requirements, and safety documentation management
  • Ability to identify hazards, assess risk, and proactively recommend improvements to safety standards and practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage diverse teams in a professional and tactful manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and record-keeping abilities
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong work ethic with a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Relevant safety certifications considered an asset (e.g., NCSO, CRSP, COR, CSTS, WHMIS Instructor, Fall Protection Trainer)
  • Experience in training and mentoring site personnel on safety practices
  • Valid Canadian driver’s licence
