We are searching for someone to join our team in Edmonton as our next Health, Safety & Environment Manager. This person is responsible for overseeing and advancing BGE’s health and safety program nationwide in all branches and field operations in Canada. This hands-on, operational role plays a key part in building out HSE programs into a single, effective system and elevating overall safety culture of both the established BGE organization and our newly acquired entity. This role ensures compliance with applicable legislation and customer requirements while driving continuous improvement through hands-on leadership and collaboration at all levels of the organization.

The day-to-day activities of our Health, Safety & Environment Manager will include:

  • Leadership – Provide support, coaching, and direction to joint-health & safety representatives and leaders across the organization as a subject matter expert. Promote a positive and proactive safety culture across the company, showing up as a partner to train, not the officer to reprimand.
  • Program Development & Refinement – Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide health and safety program in compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations ensuring the unique needs of all branches, manufacturing, warehouse and field operations are considered across Canada.
  • Deliver Training and Investigations – Coordinate and deliver health and safety training, toolbox talks, and ongoing education initiatives to ensure workforce competence and awareness. Conduct incident and near-miss investigations, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • H&S Data and Analytics – Analyze HSE data and trends to proactively manage risks and reduce incidents with data-based programs and solutions while serving as a primary point of contact for all health and safety matters.

The right candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications on their resume and in the phone pre-screen:

  • A minimum of 6-8 years of experience in a safety management or leadership role within a national, field-based, manufacturing and warehouse environment
  • Previous experience in Distribution, Manufacturing or Field Operations Organizations will be an asset to supplement this opportunity
  • Experience in developing a safety program for a national organization
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian OHS legislation and safety best practices in fieldwork and manufacturing settings.
  • Must be able to pass Pre-Employment and Pre-Access Drug, Cannabis & Alcohol Tests
  • Able to travel across Canada on a regular basis, with up to 30% travel as part of the expectation of the role
  • Capable of maintaining confidentiality when necessary
