The AVP, Operational Risk Manager will play a key role in supporting the effective implementation and ongoing enhancement of the Bank’s Operational Risk Management Framework. This includes developing, embedding, and maintaining robust operational risk frameworks, policies, and procedures across business units, ensuring they align with the Bank’s risk appetite, taxonomy, governance standards, and regulatory expectations.
The role partners closely with stakeholders across multiple business units to identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks, strengthen control environments, and promote a consistent risk culture across the organization. The role will also be responsible for producing high-quality risk assessments, thematic analyses, and management reporting to key governance forums and senior stakeholders, ensuring timely escalation and proactive management of emerging risks.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Support the identification, investigation, and management of operational incidents, ensuring robust root cause analysis and the implementation of effective preventative actions.
• Monitor and analyze operational risk events, losses, and near misses; identify trends, ensure timely escalation and remediation, and provide comprehensive reporting to management.
• Provide oversight and challenge on the design and effectiveness of key controls, working with first-line risk and control owners to ensure controls are appropriately designed, evidenced, and operating as intended.
• Support the delivery and continuous improvement of the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) programme, including methodology development, guidance, and quality assurance.
• Assist in maintaining and enhancing the Business Continuity Management (BCM) framework and strategies to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and best practice.
• Serve as the jurisdictional Data Privacy liaison, supporting the implementation of the data privacy programme, assessing and reporting on potential breaches, and engaging with data protection authorities as required.
• Prepare and deliver clear, insightful management information and reports for senior stakeholders and governance committees, covering operational risk and performance against risk appetite.
• Provide training, guidance, and support to first-line teams on operational risk, BCM, and data privacy matters to strengthen risk awareness and culture across the organization.
• Lead or contribute to ad hoc projects and local initiatives as directed by Senior Management to enhance the operational risk framework and ensure alignment across jurisdictions.
Your qualifications and skills include:
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field. A professional qualification in Risk Management would be asset.
- 5-8 years’ relevant experience in Risk Management preferably in financial services industry.
- Sound understanding of internal control frameworks, including design and evaluation of controls.
- Strong interpersonal skills, tact and maturity, and ability to work constructively with senior management and business units
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-jurisdictional team.
- Ability to multi-task, handle competing priorities, and follow through on commitments.
