Medication Safety Specialist (Ontario)
The Institute for Safe Medication Practices Canada (ISMP Canada) is seeking an experienced Ontario licensed pharmacist who is looking for a new challenge in medication safety. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of medication systems, including both operational and clinical processes, in a community pharmacy setting. The candidate will have played a role in medication safety initiatives related to analyzing medication incidents; developing and implementing medication error reduction strategies; and developing policies and procedures to improve all aspects of medication safety. The candidate’s primary role will be to support the growth of the Community Pharmacy Reporting and Learning Program through the following activities: medication incident analysis, community pharmacy engagement, data review and validation and report generation. The candidate will also support the Community Pharmacy Team in liaison with provincial organizations/stakeholders in advancing medication safety and the development of appropriate educational outputs based on data analysis.
Required Skills
Current licensure as a pharmacist in Ontario, with a minimum of 5 years delivering care in the community pharmacy setting. Knowledge of standard operating procedures in the community pharmacy setting. Maintenance of a strong clinical skillset to contribute to analysis teams. Experience collaborating or leading development, implementation and evaluation of medication safety and quality improvement initiatives.
Strong written skills with expertise in medication safety
Exceptional verbal communication and interpersonal skills including strong presentation and public speaking skills Strong organizational, time management and priority setting abilities. Fluency with Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, PowerPoint and Excel). Ability to work independently and as part of an in-person and/or virtual team.
Preferred Experience and Skills
Knowledge of accreditation and licensing requirements and professional practice standards. Engagement in quality improvement initiatives including system-based analysis.
