ISP II - Client Systems Support Analyst
About the role
Under the general guidance of the IS Project Leader-Operations, the Client Systems Support Analyst is responsible for maintaining client hardware, operating systems, configuration settings and operating system-supporting software. This position’s role is to monitor, assess and operate the tools to manage the client systems within WPS.
This individual will apply communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve client systems issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments and further the goals of the Winnipeg Police Service.
The Client System Support Analyst assists in the acquisition and deployment of client systems hardware and operating system supporting software and operational management of deployed client systems and their interaction within Winnipeg Police Service equipment and resources. This position will work together with all areas of ITSD including Service Desk, Application maintenance, Business Analysis, Infrastructure and all other areas of Operations.
As a member of Information and Technology Solutions Division (ITSD), this analyst position may also participate in project and support activities for systems that are part of WPS.
As a Client Systems Support Analyst you will:
- Provides operational, analytical and logistical support for client systems and platforms within WPS
- Provides technical support on client operating systems and O/S-supporting software giving diagnostic, prognostic and practical assistance leading to a solution as assigned
- Utilizes, tests, and modifies frameworks and solutions comprised of client systems, disks or client images (or other technologies) based on the needs of WPS
- Performs research and investigation into various aspects of information technologies relating to client systems contributing to tactical planning for ITSD. Communicates as required to members the concepts and implementation of client systems. Maintains a working level of knowledge of client systems management and configuration.
Your education and qualifications include:
- University degree or College 2-year diploma in Computer/Information Technology industry, or College 1-year certificate in Computer/Information Technology industry plus additional three (3) years of significant and progressive experience as described below.
- Minimum five (5) years of significant and progressive experience working with IT related support with emphasis on Microsoft products and supporting client devices and systems
- Minimum two (2) years of recent (within last 4 years) progressive experience developing a strong understanding of client platforms, theories, principles, and practices of client operating systems and with operating system and client computing hardware management, including but not limited to the latest Microsoft products, within a sizable institution.
- Knowledge of scripting and batch languages as well as server-based tools used in administering and configuring client platforms such as, but not limited to, PowerShell, VBScript, JavaScript, Virtual workstations, GPOs, device management, and Active Directory.
- Basic knowledge of project management.
- Knowledge of systems development, implementation and support practices.
- Understanding the usage of imaging, virtual workstations and operating system features.
- Understanding of, and experience with, server-client computing, n-tier applications and database environments.
- Knowledge and ability to read, understand, and generate business processes mapping and flowcharting.
- Knowledgeable and skilled with project and product lifecycles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
- Ability to successfully multi-task with frequent interruptions and complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Coordinate and maintain scheduled tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to problem solve in a variety of settings and circumstances.
- Maintain a strong working relationship with stakeholders including customers.

- Ability to pass a level 3 Winnipeg Police Service security check and maintain clearance
- Application and commitment to participate as Distributed Regional Authority a requirement as part of the functions
- Maintain a Valid Class 5 driver’s license
