About the role

Lead Hand – Landscape Construction

Hutten & Co. Land and Shore

Owen Sound, ON

$22–$27/hour, based on experience

Shape our rugged landscape.

You’re a skilled landscape builder.

You’re comfortable taking the lead on smaller projects.

And you know how to turn a design into reality.

As a Lead Hand – Landscape Construction, you support the Crew Leader in executing high-quality landscape construction projects while guiding daily crew performance. You combine strong technical ability with growing leadership responsibility — helping ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to Hutten standards.

This is hands-on, outdoor work — paired with accountability and direction on site.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Project Execution

  • Assist the Crew Leader in supervising, delegating, coordinating, and executing daily work activities of a 2–3 person crew — at times independently
  • Support management of safety, quality, and productivity
  • Work safely and responsibly with strong initiative
  • Wear appropriate PPE at all times
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of trucks, trailers, equipment, jobsites, and yard areas

Assistant Leadership

  • Take ownership of smaller projects while supporting overall project leadership
  • Demonstrate continuous growth and personal goal achievement
  • Actively participate in regular team meetings
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with customers
  • Comply with all company and safety regulations

Quality Workmanship

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, structural drawings, and specifications
  • Layout of work areas to required elevations, grades, and drainage requirements
  • Site calculations and material quantity take-offs
  • Operation of chainsaws, jackhammers, laser levels, measurement equipment, and construction tools
  • Operation of heavy equipment including skid steer, excavator, and loader
  • Operation of crew truck and trailer (AZ level)
  • Completion of complex and detailed stone, wood, water, and planting installations

Short-Term Planning & Documentation

  • Complete required paperwork and electronic logs daily

  • Participate in daily planning to coordinate project goals and identify obstacles

  • Track estimated vs. actual job hours

What Success Looks Like

  • Projects completed to Hutten quality standards

  • Estimated vs. actual hours managed effectively

  • Strong on-site leadership presence

  • Safe, organized, productive job sites

  • Clear communication and customer confidence

Who This Role Is Perfect For
