The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a full-time, contract (1 year) Program Officer to support the Preclinical and Molecular Sciences Divisions of the Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute. Reporting to the Research Operations Managers of the two divisions, the Program Officer will play a key role in supporting scientific research and administrative operations across diverse research teams.
Key Accountabilities:
The successful candidate will provide technical and operational support to scientists to ensure smooth execution of research projects, including laboratory workflows, regulatory compliance, and administrative coordination. This includes preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment; inventory management (samples, chemicals, reagents, office supplies, and equipment); contributing to quality assurance practices such as study monitoring, audits, and the development and updating of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); support the managers with regulatory and biosafety and ethics submissions, contract processing, monitoring of project milestones and deliverables, financial and donor reporting; assist with staff and student onboarding, training, and mentorship; coordinate cross-functional operations by liaising with departments such as Procurement, and Research Services, as well as external stakeholders as needed. The Program Officer will promote a healthy, inclusive workplace that embraces diversity, teamwork, and compliance with all CAMH, regulatory, and legislative requirements.
Job Requirements
- Required: 3+ years of general work experience in a customer service role in a public sector setting, with preference given to experience in a health care setting.
- Required: 1+ year of experience in general research or research administration.
- Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Biology, or another relevant discipline.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, tissue culture, nucleic acid/protein extraction, genome-wide technologies). Familiarity with genetic rodent models is an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative research methodologies, experimental design, and laboratory protocol development and troubleshooting.
- Strong communication, administrative and operational skills, including project management
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), databases and/or Laboratory Information Systems, and familiarity with data analysis or bioinformatics tools.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and workflows simultaneously.
