For Mental Health and Addictions Youth Program Facilitator position that is full-time and permanent, recruitment bonuses include: $3,000 on start date, $3,000 at 6 months of service, $5,000 at 1 year of service and $7,000 at 2 years of service. For Job shares, salary, bonuses/allowances are pro-rated in accordance with hours worked.

The purpose of this position is to determine community needs for children and youth, and identify and provide programs designed to improve the well-being of young people. The Youth Program Facilitator will establish supportive relationships with youth and their families with the goal of empowering them to actively participate in mental health wellness. This position will reinforce, practice and model mental health strategies of the Department of Health as part of the Mental Health and Addictions team.

Reporting to the Mental Health and Addictions Program Supervisor, the incumbent will provide general support and advocacy to help children and youth meet their needs by developing and facilitating community-based programs. Effective delivery of these programs will have sufficient impact on the safety, confidence, and overall well-being of children, youth, and their families, in addition to enhancing and increasing access to Mental Health and Addictions services.

The Youth Program Facilitator incorporates Inuit knowledge, values, culture and IQ principles in their work.

With direction of the supervisor and the MHA team lead, the Youth Program Facilitator is responsible for working closely with the health care team and community organizations to promote mental health wellness amongst young Nunavummiut.

Knowledge of Child and youth mental health and addictions issues; knowledge of relevant acts, regulations, policies, standards and protocols; community and territorial Mental Health and Addictions resources; community demographics, culture and history; Inuit Qaujimajajtuqangit Principles and Values are required. Techniques, methods and practices of communications are also required to organize and deliver community-based wellness programs for children and youth.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are typically obtained through a Certificate in Social Service, Child and/or Youth Work, Mental health, or related field and one year of experience working in child and/or youth work, mental health, or a related field.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, English and French.

Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Current First Aid & CPR, ability to communicate in more than 1 of Nunavut’s official languages and a valid Nunavut Driver’s License are assets.

Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
