About the role

Primary Role

The Buyer handles day-to-day tasks related to purchasing of materials and services required; with the goal of supporting the internal functions of Evans Consoles by having the right materials and services, at the right place and right time. Also maintains and builds new relationships with vendors to ensure constant material flow. Relies on experience, initiative, and judgement to plan and accomplish goals, performing a variety of tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day:

  • Manages Purchase orders (Pos) in Axapta:

  • Issues/maintains Pos from Evans suppliers as requested by Materials Planning, Design, and Manufacturing.

  • Negotiates and manages blanket orders on selected materials.

  • Reviews invoices and updates Pos, when requested by Accounting.

  • Assures on-time PO delivery:

  • Checks project due dates to understand the purchasing urgency.

  • Follows up with suppliers on the status of Pos – Delivery dates/tracking information and informs internal customers (e.g. Scheduling & Manufacturing).

  • Works with internal customers (e.g. Scheduling, Transportation, and Design) to mitigate late shipments (finding alternative suppliers, expediting shipments, etc.).

  • Maintains Axapta master data accuracy & consistency, including item descriptions, pricing, units of measure, and supplier data.

  • Fills and submits credit applications with suppliers.

Strategic Sourcing:

  • Identifies new purchasing opportunities for the new/existing materials/services, with the goal of achieving cost-savings, as well as improvements in quality and logistics.

  • Works with internal customers to understand material/service specs & potential volumes.

  • Analyzes previous purchases & market data to help in understanding Evans’ needs and bargaining position.

  • Utilizes internet research and networking to select potential suppliers who are capable of providing materials/services required.

  • Negotiates with selected suppliers based on the following criteria – Pricing, Logistics, Quality, and Customer Service.

  • Assesses bids from suppliers and prepares recommendations for executive sign-off.

Other Duties Include

Process Improvements:

  • Suggests and implements process improvements, especially with regards to Day-to-day purchasing processes.

Qualifications

  • Project Management ability

  • Supply Chain designations (SCMP/CPP/Other)

  • Advanced PC knowledge; SQL/VBA, ERP systems (eg SAP/Axapta)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Strategic Sourcing

  • Knowledge of best practice procurement tools

  • Understanding of manufacturing environment (custom manufacturing preferred)

Education/Experience

  • 5-7 years’ experience in a procurement/supply chain/administrative or similar role

  • Bachelor’s degree (Business/Engineering/Economics)

  • Attention to details & strong analytical skills – intellectual curiosity and the ability to come up with simple conclusions based on complex analysis. Tech-savvy with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Powerful communication skills – ability to express messages in a clear, fluent, and structured way – both verbally and in writing.

  • Solid negotiator – ability to influence and show strong, dominant personality, especially when it comes to supplier negotiations.
