Department Information

Job Information

The Instructional Design and eLearning Specialist applies proven instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles (andragogy) to research, design, develop, implement, and evaluate learning experiences that meet the unique needs of the NWT Health and Social Services (HSS) System. The specialist serves as the Territorial Subject Matter Expert (SME) in both the educational and technical aspects of digital learning, ensuring that training programs are accessible, culturally safe, and response to the realities of delivering heath and socials services in northern and remote contexts. This position also supports the Strategic Learning and Talent Development team in the implementation and optimization of the Litmos Learning Management System (LMS) and the development of learning products using modern authoring tools, including Articulate 360, Litmos eLearning Suite, Canva, and Veyond.

Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.

  • Expertise in instructional design models and adult learning principles (andragogy), including ADDIE, SAM, Agile learning design, and rapid prototyping
  • Strong knowledge of digital learning platforms, tools, trends and eLearning authoring software, (Articulate, Litmos eLearning Suite, Canva, Veyond), and LMS administration (Litmos)
  • Ability to translate complex content into engaging, accessible, and learner-centered digital learning experiences, with strong collaboration and project management skills.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

Successful completion of a post-secondary degree in Instructional Design and Technology, Education and/or Adult Education, or a related field and a minimum of five (5) years recent related job experience in Instructional Design and/or eDevelopment, or eight (8) years recent, relevant work experience. Experience working within a health and social services environment, with an understanding of the unique needs of staff across diverse and northern remote communities is considered and asset.
