THE OPPORTUNITY
The Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for supporting the safety program throughout their territory and corporately. Responsibilities include examining potential unsafe working conditions, performing safety inspections, preparing reports, support of safety committees, providing safety training when needed and conducting investigations of accidents and suggesting preventative solutions. The Health & Safety Advisor will facilitate positive safety culture by building relationships at assigned branches and promoting and encouraging correct safety practices.
This position will be located at Leduc, AB.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review, revision or development of safety policies and procedures. Review of regulations to ensure compliance and identify any deficiencies.
- Review incident investigations including identification of meaningful corrective actions.
- Communication of safety information verbally, or through written communications.
- Participation in toolbox meetings, joint health and safety committee meetings and branch inspections.
- Site visits to assigned branches conducting inspections, identifying deficiencies, working with local level employees to create and implement solutions.
- Facilitate preparation and conducting annual audits and support branches in correcting identified deficiencies.
- Contribute to safety management system maintenance and tool development. Support users in the system with training.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
- Diploma or post-secondary degree in occupational health and safety
- CRST/CRSP certification or working towards certifications
- 4+ years’ experience in safety related site inspection, investigation, hazard assessment, working knowledge of regulation, policy development.
- Able to deliver training in front of various groups of people
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
- Able to find and interpret regulations pertaining to worksites within assigned territory
- Knowledgeable in hazard assessment and control
- Trained in inspections and investigations
- Must have effective interpersonal skills
- Must be strong in both written and oral communication
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently
- Ability to travel as needed throughout the assigned region
- Travel outside of the local area will be required from time to time, typically generated by meetings at Inland branches, training programs or seminars, along with trips to vendor and OEM locations. This may include travel in both Canada and the USA, so it is essential you hold and maintain a valid driver’s licence and passport at all times and be able to travel as required.
