About the role
The Big Picture
The Metrologist is responsible for developing and executing dimensional inspection and measurement strategies to support manufacturing, quality control, and new product introduction in a regulated medical device environment. This role owns CMM programming, ensures measurement accuracy and compliance with engineering requirements, and drives continuous improvement of inspection processes. The Metrologist also provides mentorship to Quality Inspectors and technical guidance to Engineering and Production teams on GD&T and Metrology best practices.

Perform and lead complex dimensional inspections using CMM, optical, and manual metrology equipment.

Create and optimize CMM programs (Zeiss Calypso or equivalent) for new parts, assemblies, and fixtures.

Partner with Engineering and Manufacturing to resolve measurement discrepancies and define robust inspection methods.

Advice on measurement strategies and GD&T interpretation during drawing and design reviews.

Advise on methods of resolving measurement problems
-
Collaborate with R&D during design transfer to define critical dimensions and measurement strategies for validation builds.

Lead the calibration and verification of measurement equipment and inspection fixtures.

Develop and maintain metrology documentation — work instructions, setup sheets, calibration records, and inspection templates.age metrology documentation, including work instructions, setup sheets, and calibration records

Coordinates improvement projects in quality control

Conduct measurement system analyses (Gage R&R, MSA) and report trends impacting product or process quality.

Train and mentor Quality Inspectors and Engineers on metrology tools, GD&T, and CMM operation.

Support internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with ISO 13485, MDSAP, and corporate quality requirements.

Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the quality control and measurement processes.

Comply with the Health & Safety policies of the company and inform management of unsafe working conditions

Your Unique Expertise
Required Skills:
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent technical experience)
- Minimum 5 years of dimensional inspection
- Expert knowledge of metrology principles, GD&T and CMM programming
- Proficiency with precision metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, scales, height gauge, gauge blocks, bore gauges, thread gauges, etc.)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings and translate them into effective measurement strategies.
- Experience with ERP/QMS systems, data analysis, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to train and influence cross-functional teams.
Asset Skills:
