Maintenance Manager
Reports To : Director of Food Production

Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm
Work Location: On-site at 115 Saulter Street South
The Position
The Maintenance Manager is accountable for promoting excellence in all site maintenance activities, leading the site maintenance function in providing both a reactive and proactive, multi-skilled service on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure. The Maintenance Manager is focussed on safety, productivity, quality, cost control, environmental compliance and positive interdepartmental relations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage operations of the department by coordinating, planning, setting priorities, and following-up on maintenance activities to facilitate optimum performance, including labour/resources/shift requirements
- Ensure that all relevant activities are conducted in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements and good business practices
- Problem-solve and act as primary decision maker in the following areas: facility, emergency response, project start up, engineering (as built design vs. theoretical).
- Provide leadership to improve health and safety performance by being a role model in safety and demonstrating due diligence. Focus on incident prevention through hazard identification, implementing necessary controls, training, education, and audits. Take corrective action to address unsafe situations and employee behaviours
- Provide leadership and supervision to staff by hiring, reviewing performance and providing feedback, determining training and development needs, and providing coaching and work direction
- Develop business plans to resolve maintenance and production-related issues based on business knowledge and, where necessary, seek appropriate approvals to implement solutions within time and budgetary constraints
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for improvement in costs, quality, customer service, and overall facility operations
- Identify and/or provide input on appropriate technology, equipment and methodology used in the operation, or having an opportunity to improve operating results or costs
- Supervise and ensure contractors adhere to facility procedures and achieve contractual requirements, including equipment installations, modifications and maintenance as required on weekends or off-production periods
- Manage the department’s budget by controlling, monitoring and justifying expenditures versus plan and manage accordingly
- Manage capital projects, as assigned, including: design, budget control, site management, vendor selection, qualification, and training
General Maintenance Duties
- Plans, organizes, directs and undertakes the ongoing maintenance, security, emergency response and cleanliness of the buildings (Saulter, 6P and future locations), grounds and equipment
- Plans, organizes, directs and implements on-site grounds services such as signage, road and parking lot maintenance, snow removal and grounds keeping operations
- Assure sharing and implementation of building management best practices
- Work order management
- Oversees and undertakes the maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, electrical and mechanical systems
- Procures all necessary parts, materials and supplies for the purpose of maintenance, repairs, cleaning and projects
- Communicates with contractor services to plan and schedule building, grounds and equipment services and special projects
- Develop and manage parts inventory system
- Develop and implement improvements to maintenance management practices
Quality, Safety, and Organizational Requirements
- Provides support to key areas to minimize downtime and maintain high safety and quality standards
- Manage and perform scheduled equipment Preventive Maintenance (PM) as per program
- Maintaining maintenance records
- Establish and maintain safe work practices and environmental compliance. Contribute to the achievement of RFRK safety goals. Maintain safe working conditions throughout the facility

- Oversees staff responsible for custodial work
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Required Education & Experience
- College diploma or University degree; or an equivalent combination of related experience and education
- Min. of 4 years of industrial maintenance experience in a food manufacturing environment
- Sound negotiation skills as well as financial and budgetary skills
- Knowledge of all regulatory codes (building, ISO, safety, fire, CFIA, electrical, TSSA, etc.)
- Ability to communicate effectively and across multiple departments
- Ability to lead, motivate, coach, mentor and resolve employee conflicts
- Comfortable reading engineering drawings
- Structured and self-directed approach to project work
- Familiarity with boilers, air compressors, heating and air conditioning, plumbing, welding, carpentry, electrical/electronic equipment, pneumatic, hydraulics and manufacturing equipment
- Ability to consistently meet targets and deadlines
- Strong planning, organizing, and time management skills
- Proficiency in setting priorities and executing multiple assignments in a timely manner
- Capacity to solve problems through creative, innovative solutions, and challenge traditional methods of accomplishing tasks
- Strong command of English language (written and verbal)
- Sound mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools and light machinery
- Ability to adjust and be flexible to meet changing work needs and demands
- Proficient with standard office computer technology such as Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)
Nice-to-have
- Exposure to CMMS software, project management software, and AutoCAD
- Knowledge of MRP/ERP system as it pertains to maintenance and operations
- Knowledge of HACCP and Provincial Safety Regulations
Description of physical demands and work environment
Combination of office environment and production floor. Generally stationary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 50% of the time. Work is generally performed in an office environment with standard office equipment and without hazardous or unpleasant conditions (caused by noise, temperature, lighting, etc.). We may require that you work outside of your core work hours sometimes.
This position is generally quite labour intensive and requires being on your feet, on the production floor, for up to 90% of the time. 10% of the time would then be dedicated to paperwork/computer work. There will be constant exposure to environmental conditions with varying transitional temperatures. Regular lifting of products, up to 50lbs, with repetitive motion can be expected. Proper lifting techniques and use of equipment provided is essential to prevent injury. We may require you to work outside of your core work hours on occasion.
